Anyone Gone Back to Their Old Kit

Golf over the Winter has been pretty patchy to say the least. I went a bit mad and changed my putter and that was a total failure. Went back to the old one at the weekend and all is good.

Next problem is my irons. Do not know why but something about my Cleveland CG16 irons just have not clicked. Not sure why, the good shots are great but I seem to be a bit more inconsistant. So I have a day off on Thursday and have not found a round so the Cobra SZ irons are coming out of retirement to see if they still have the old magic.


Part of me wants my old gear to work but part of the is thinking how much cash I have wasted if it works better than my new gear (well at least I am still happy with all of my Mizuno kit)

Tried the TM TP's at the range recently when I thought I was swinging well but to be honest was happier with the R11's. The only thing old school is my Ping Anser 2 from the 80's which is in the bag and doing OK

I took my old driver up to the range for a serious comparison with the new one with a view to resurrecting it. New driver was better, just me that's crap.

I have just dug out the old Ping Zing putter and given the Scotty a frightener on the practice green.

After committing to improving the putting I have been down there a fair bit and got talking to a guy in his late teens / early 20's who is off 0.8. He asked me what I was trying to work on and gave me some tips on tempo etc. Having changed the strike a fair bit I decided to try it with two different putter types / weights before I got too used to one and reluctant to change again. So far I reckon the Ping is winning the race.

I am out for a friendly 9 hole knock this Thursday so I am going to give it a run out.

As a youth I desperately wanted an Acushnet Bullseye but they were difficult to source and cost a fortune.
Fast forward 50 years and I bought a very good condition one for £1 at a Borders car boot sale.
I use it during the summer when I know that I shall be playing on fast greens. Lovely feel to the club

I have a set of Hippo AGC irons and a set of MacGreggor steel shafted steel woods in addition to a Dunlop Loco £12 driver which I left at my Mothers for when we visit family in the North East. They'll be getting used over Easter when we visit.

Last time I played the young guy I played with couldn't believe how well I was hitting the woods and driver, (he hadn't seen steel shafted woods before). He also thought the irons were muscle back blades due to their thin soles which was quite amusing.

Currently I have gone back to my Titleist ZBs, and have benched my Adams CB2s (which were not cheap). I might get the CB2s out after this weekend, and give them another go. I was toying with the idea of re-shafting them, but my coach now thinks they might be a better fit than my ZBs.

Me? I'm just confused.

I tried breaking out my old Cobra S2 offset driver, and couldn't hit it whatsoever! Sticking with the R11!!

I normally have to trade in or sell my old kit to buy the new kit so it takes away the option of going back to old stuff.

same more me though the new kit is usually more exspensive so its generally a 2 out 1 in policy until in run out of clubs.

i do keep putters though, sometimes a change is good, even if it only re-assures me about the one im using.

I sell my old gear on Ebay so can't go back to it. With my current woes though I'm kinda wishing I'd hung on to my little G5 26 degree rescue!

I am contemplating going back to my old sports though! Started a bit of running again as right now it gives me some sense of achievement which I sure as hell aint getting from golf.
