I went and booked myself and 2 mates in for the comp on Saturday tonight . When I had got back to my table some other mates informed me it’s a Texas Scramble on Saturday… We are not fans of this format especially in summer when I want to play serious golf when the course is in great condition and not a novelty competition. When I went back to the booking In lad(handicap committee )to scrub our names off and explained we don’t particularly like TS he scoffed at me and said I must be the only one in the room who doesn’t like them . I enjoy a team event but prefer to play them in the winter … Anyone else similar to me and my mates ?

I despise them. Always have when they are presented as the main event of the day. Fine for a 9 hole warm up before a main comp but otherwise a waste of a day on the golf course.

Having said that...I dipped my toes in a Greensome's comp the other week (another format I'm not a fan of) and quite enjoyed it....maybe I'm going soft in my old age.

Love ‘em. It’s a bit of fun, and usually with a group of mates of your choice.

If I played for a living I might have a different feel for them.

I like them as an occasional diversion.

If you only get to play one round a week, I can see why you might not approve. Depends on how often tge club run them. Ive not played one this year.
Maybe thats why my attitude to the greensomes has softened....now I'm retired I play as much as I want, so the odd diversion from individual comps might be more welcome.

Watch this space.... :ROFLMAO:

We have two, one mid season and one early winter. We play them as they are on a Saturday and it’s a game of golf, but we don’t expect to win. The change in stroke allowance skews them ridiculously in favour of high handicappers, and I really dislike it when you’re reduced to four drives each, which we are.

It’s golf. But only just.

⬆️⬆️ This for me too. I really enjoy them, but prob only play one a year, at my home club.

When I played in a society 4 times a year we used to play 9 hole texas scramble in the morning ,have lunch and then 18 holes in the afternoon. I quite liked it,the 9 holes got you ready for the important 18 in the afternoon. The handicaps seemed to work out OK, with a couple of high and couple of lower handicaps.
So yes,I enjoyed them but wouldn't fancy 18 in that format.

I always used to like them - its' a sociable format and quite tactical. However, lately the scores needed to be competitive are just ridiculous (maybe a refection of WHS rather than TS format) but as a result I am now less keen unless it was just seen as a bit of fun with mates.
