A few ounces of consistency for sale?

Played today and hit some really, really quality shots - as well as some real pigs. Frustrating or what? Only thing that held together was the short game.

Oh well - there's always next week.

Same thing happened to me this week. Good shot, bad shot. Good hole bad hole. The most frustrating thing was that when I had finished and counted up the score I had played in net par.
What could have been had there been better consistency.

You're not alone.

I played earlier this week and had (gross) 5 birdies, 5 pars, 5 doubles, a triple, and 2 pick-ups.

Does that count as a bogey-free round??? :p

In the last 6 weeks or so , half the times I have played have been up and down from Brilliant, though good, ok, poor, rubbish, awful to shoot me! So I know how you feel Imurg, even today as I played great golf for 16 holes with 3 or 4 so very very near birdies and one eagle, I still had two holes close togeather, both triple bogey...DOH!

Golf is bitch sometimes..lol

Imurg, if I had a £ for everyone who asked me that quetion, I'd be a very rich man.

How many bones are there in the body?
How many muscles are there in the body?
Can we make them all do the same thing at the same time over and over again? Difficult.
I say, simplify the swing, keep swing thoughts down to a minimum and just try and make a swing that is as near repeatable as possible.
The more moving parts and flapping around bits, the harder it is to be consistant.
Think of an octopuss having a fight with a set of bagpipes and you get the picture :D

Were you watching me yesterday? Are you a stalker? I thought I saw someone lurking in the bushes at the 9th...

I'm going out this afternoon and before reading this post was thinking the same things. I must do whatever I can to be more consistent today. Shorter, 3/4 swing? Take one club more and swing within myself? The more conservative I get, the more tentative the short game becomes......

No that was me looking for your ball....again!

Chin up matey, the driver although not completely consitent was much better, a lot more control I thought, and pretty long as well.

You're right though the short game was good, do you charge much for lessons?

Sounds exactly like my round this morning. Putter and wedges worked well, irons were a bit patchy, but didn't know where my drives were heading from one hole to the next. :(

If you want to be consistent, just lay up with every club.

I played a match recently with a partner off 19. On stroke index 2, he hit to 150 from the green, and rather than going for it (clearly a massive risk from 150), laid up, saying, well I get a shot here anyway.

WTF?

Sorry, can't say that anymore. Unless F stands for flip.

Same here Imurg.....Played today and like you played some nice solid shots....I turned onto our back 9 with 18 points took 2 points a hole for the next 4 and there was such a big hold up with players in front of us on all holes playiny slow that i lost my MOJO and fell asunder after that ....i wasnt a happy camper coming off 18......We've got a course ranger that might as well be working as a librarian hes so quite......

I know the feeling for slow play, today on a track which is a 9 holer and over 18 holes of 5250 yards it took us.... 4hrs 20 mins!!! I wouldnt mind if it was a one off but normal rounds on a weekend is 4hrs and during the week its 3!!

I played members/guest day yesterday and the course was closed to everyone else. It was like millionairres golf - no one pushing behind and no-one in front. Sadly both HTL and I were guilty of being inconsistant especially int he afternoon greensomes. We managed to always keep one ball in play off the tee but neither of us seemed to hit goo second shots or chip and putt when it mattered. Its a story that is affecting my own game too. Off to the range later to find the key.

Today's consistency:

Three putts x 3
OOB x 2
GiR x 9
Par x 9
Birdie x 1
Quadruple bogey x 1

End result: one of my best rounds so far and 42 points.
Perhaps not knowing how we are going to play is what makes us keep coming back for more.
