HID only started driving 3/4 years ago , so origionaly i put her on my insurance . think it was €75 extra , as time went on we got a second car , she got her own car own insurance etc with me named on the policy & she stayed named on mine ..

I have open driving policy anyone 25-70 with full licence covered , plus i added her as a named driver as she had a provisional licence .

Anyhow she passed her test on wednesday , out of curiosity i rang to see as she is now coverd by the open driving end of my policy whats the story of removing her as a named driver ..

If i remove her as a named driver my insurance goes UP €66 ... WHAAAT ? so up to now my policy was cheaper because i had a provisional licence driver on it ? sounds bit mad to me .. reason im told was , its because she is a woman ..
But as i explained it was dearer to put her on , she was a woman then aswell , and now its dearer to take her off

Insurance is nuts aint it ?

Very common..
Up to now she's had to be accompanied but now she's passed she's on her own.
And as a newly qualified driver, having to make all the decisions, she's a bigger risk than before.

I added HIDs to my car insurance and it came down and she had had a no fault claim on her policy as well as 3 points on her license, go figure that one.

On a separate but similar note, I've just done, mine and HID car insurance, our renewals are up at the same time, the renewal for her cars was going to be £43 per month and mine £41 per month. Did the comparison web sites and found Admiral to be the cheapest, by cheapest I mean more than 50% cheaper than what my current insurance company wanted, then I remembered they did multi car, so got HID added to a multicar quote, said quote came back at £40 for both cars.

So instead of paying nigh on £900 over the year for mine and HIDs car, we're paying less than half, how does that work?

Oh, and the cover we have now is better than what we previously had.

Insurance companies when someone works them out let me know :)

In the UK insurers have been told to stop giving women a lower premium than men as it comes under the sex discrimination act. During the next 12 months you will see premiums change but don't expect mens premiums to come down but womens to go up! Just another way of robbing us of our money!

My insurance is cheaper with HID on it than not.
Some extra discount for married couples apparently.
Pretty strange I thought.

I looked at a BMW 5 series about 2 years ago.
They wanted £1900 for us both.
£2500 just for me on my own and would quote for HID on her own coz she's under 30.
Now that's messed up lol.

Another with admiral multi car, before we were paying aiming like £100 a month between us it's now £60 for both. It was lower until she reversed into next doors car!

I think there was some EU court ruling that it was illegal to charge less for a Woman on Insurance policies. The result was that they increased Women's cover to the same as men.

It comes into effect this Friday. Absolutely bonkers decision from those half wits in Brussels, completely goes against the principle of risk rating that insurance is based upon. What next, sensible mature drivers paying the same as 18yr olds in souped up Saxos?
