Over the last couple of years I have experienced numbness to the outside of my right knee and pain to the inside. Over the last few weeks it has became really sore if I turn/pivot. I am not currently playing so its not golf. Could it be my crutiate?

 You've had this problem for a couple of years and you've never been to the docs, but now you are asking on a golf website? Do you have a phobia of GPs?

A year or two ago I went to the docs with numbness in my thigh just above my knee.

Most of the time it's just numb, but then sometimes it's pins and needles type painful, then occasionally I get quite bad pain which feels like its fizzing.

They hadn't got a clue, and said they would ring me if any of their colleagues had any ideas. Cheers.

Doesn't sound like anything to do with your cruciates, they're intraarticular and you would feel the pain from that deep within the joint itself normally, not on either side.

It sounds a little like you have arthritis and are having an acute flare up.

Much as I'm sceptical of the expertise of GPs in this sort of area, they are certainly the best place to start.

Don't be fobbed off though! If they 'merely' recommend rest or anti-inflammatories, be sure to challenge him/her as to exactly why that is the solution - or if it is just an attempt at a solution.

I had pain along the top and outer side of my knees a couple of years back. Going to my regular doctor, I was described anti-inflammatories and rest, but those didn't help.

I later went to see a locum doctor about the same thing. She got me walking up and down on a piece of paper and noticed that I didn't walk 'flat' on the soles of my feet. Instead I walked on the outstep of my feet, putting pressure on some muscles and cartilage, of which I can't remember the name of. She recommended I see a podiatrist for special insoles to help me walk more on my soles.

Have to say its worked so far. Could be completely unrelated to your problem, but worth mentioning to a doc.

I went to my GP and he was less than useless. He did offer to write me a line for 4 weeks which made me rather annoyed as it wasn't bad enough to stop me doing my job.

Go and see a decent physio. They will be able to offer you much more sound advice than a doctor.
