Now then not sure where to go. But young Bradley Tash who is four next month has been playing on one of my cornets for the last six months or so. Similar to the ones which were played yesterday during the last post and revelle. It has no keys. When we came back from a memorial service on Thursday he sat down in front of the iPad and watched the last post and copied it throughout, although not note for note. Am having a quick look on eBay for a cheap one for him to have a play with (Christmas pressie). But what would I need to look for, a cornet looks cheap enough but will his fingers reach the keys. Would a cornet with keys be ideal, would he be better with a trumpet. Are there differant sorts of cornets. What would be the ideal starter brass instrument for him without it costing the earth. It may well end up back on eBay New Year's Eve but you never know..
Cheers Tashyboy.

Andy, hope young Bradley gets to learn the cornet
I agree about a brass one as above.
However ,I have a Boys Brigade bugle in my garage that he can have if ever he progresses enough to try it.
No long sleeps when he starts practising though!

Get him a cheapo trumpet to start with (trumpet players get all the girls) and if he makes too much noise, you can get a mute for £5

Evening Malc, there's no wonder I asked for advice on brass instruments. It is a bugle he can play not the flippin cornet. When Harworth pit shut the shed robbers had a field day. The local St Johns ambulance brigade hut was flattened. Before it was they were told to take what they needed. All the musical instruments were left. We were told to go and empty everything they had left behind. I helped myself to 3 X bugles. That is what Bradley plays. That's why I am not sure whether to get a cornet or trumpet. Don't know which is easier to play, or if they are easy/ hard as one another. Had a look on eBay and plastic trumpets are about £125 with second hand cornets £30 plus.

If I do get him summat, rule no1 trumpet goes home .

Tashyboy, get him golfing too take his mind off being intelligent!

I don't want to come along as a pushy grandad, but at the moment I have £82s worth of club shop vouchers. With possibly a few more coming after today's round. I have my eye on a set of kids clubs ( masters I think they are) in the shop. £119 I think they are so I need to shop around to check they not dear. Bag and four clubs.👍
