Another potential spare place for Castle Stuart

Just arrived at the airport to find that my flight has been cancelled, despite the airline telling me 3 houra ago that it was DEFINITELY on.

Looking into other flights, but if anyone can use the place let me know. Hotel booked and paid for in Nairn for tonight and tomorrow.

Use the refund from the cancelled flight to pay for a train, you've all day to get up here, you also could drive Liverpool (sorry The Wirral) to Inverness in 7 hours - less than an equivalent days work.

Come on Colin althought the weather is pants (snow) for today's Spey Valley outing by tomorrow up on the coast its going to be really sunny and about 13c, similar again for Sunday - you don't want to miss it.

Castle Stuart in the sun and little wind will be fantastic.

Drivings not an option, got a dodgy knee which would leave me unable to walk tomorrow. Can't get a refund on the flight BUT there's another flight tomorrow morning which gets me to Inverness as 1020 which would be perfect. Trying to get through to rebook

They told me I could rebook another flight but no refund, no sure that's correct, but rebooked anyway so not a problem

What a complete and utter total f up. Flight cancelled yesterday because Inverness had to shut again because of the ash. Fair enough, cant be helped. 2 hours on hold to airline, rebooked for this morning and would arrive in plenty of time.

Off to the airport again at 6am, arrived 2 hours before departure to be told the flight was over booked and I was on stand by. Stood there like a lemon for 90 minutes to be told the flight was full, would I like to be transferred to tomorrows flight. I asked the airline 3 times yesterday if I was definitely on todays flight ! If they'd have said "maybe" I'd have caught the train and arrived last night. Eventually had to be "directed" to the exit by a policeman.

I'm devastated, been looking forward to this for 6 months

That is total and utter crap from the airlines. You bought a seat on their airplane, you didn't buy a 'maybe' ticket.

I don't know the full in's and out's for these things. Will you be able to claim the cost of your golf and accommodation from them. It is their fault you cannot attend. You reserved a seat with them in good faith.

What airline was it?

Flybe, I can get a refund on the flight but had paid for car hire in Inverness, 2 nights hotel and car parking at Manchester airport. I'd booked some of it with airmiles so not as bad as it could have been, more gutted about missing the golf tbh

As freddielong says, profit over service.

Aside from giving you a refund they will probably turn out to be untouchable. I would still send in a list of costs incurred and detail the inconveniences you've suffered and see what their response is.

As you say though, it's the actual missing out that is the most disappointing when you've been looking forward to something.

KHW & I pitched up at the hotel last night Colin (same one as you were booked into) and they didn't have any record of my reservation for a twin room. Granted they sorted things out no problem, but after a long day traveling and golfing, that was the last thing I wanted to hear.
