Played at Tudor Park at the weekend (Marriot place in Maidstone for those that don't know it) as my place was closed all day for Captain's Day and I hadn't got my name down in time. I booked via teeofftimes.co.uk and paid £20 for the round.

I won't rush back. It's a cramped layout, with a couple of places where there are a group of tees and greens bunched together, but the main issue was the pace of play. We were stuck behind a four ball all the way round - they teed off 20 minutes before we did and were in buggies, but we'd caught them up by the time we reached the 4th tee. It was slow all the way through to the 9th, at which point we decided, as there was no-one behind us, to stop for a beer and to watch twenty minutes of the football and give them a head start. Unfortunately, although this made for three very pleasant holes of golf, we then caught them on the 4th tee of the back 9. We ended up giving up with two holes left.

All in all, it's a pretty bland layout and it's packed full of people wearing luminous clothing, stag parties and generally big groups of people that my mother would describe as "lager louts", which in principle I have no problem with as golf is for everyone, not just me, but I do have an issue with it if it starts to interfere with my enjoyment of the round. If you're looking for somewhere for a stag weekend then it's ideal, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise, even at £20.

I gather it's a Trilby Tour venue - I'd be pretty disappointed if I'd paid the entry fee and ended up playing here.

However, I also played at Leeds Castle this weekend and it was absolutely fantastic! I've played before and although in the past the scenery has been beautiful, the condition of the course hasn't matched it. That's no longer the case, although it still needs a bit of work in places, it was in very good condition, the greens were good and the course matched the beauty of its surroundings. I can't recommend it highly enough.

If you find yourself in the area with a spare 90 mins then drop in and play these 9 holes, you won't regret it.
