Shot another PB score, 82, at Luton Hoo.

Given it's a par 73 and my local track is a 71 I'm pretty damn pleased with myself. So easily could have been sub 80 as well.

It's not too bad. Quite long of the back tee's (7,300 yards I think) and par 73. Quite tactical as well. Can't just get the big dog out each hole.

There's some nice open holes and when it comes back through the tree's you have to think a bit and make sure you put you're teeshot in the right place to make sure you have a line into the green. Bit of water as well to give you something to think about.

No bunkers though !!

Also, it's dead easy to get on as it's a hotel course, I don't think they have that many members there.

Greens can be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes they are in fantastic condition and run fast and true. Sometimes they are really slow and you really have to give it some to get the ball to the hole.

Also, as it doesn't get that busy you can pretty much play at you're own pace. I tee'd off at 9:30 one Saturday morning as was round in about 2.5h and I wasn't rushing either. Don't know many course you could do that on Saturday at that time !!

I think it was reviewed the venue in golf punk this month.

Luton Hoo is okay - Brilliant premises and site, great people there too but - it's long off the whites. Too long for me, fairways are not great either(in fact some stone and flint). When i played they greens were ok, slower than our place but they were very true.

Is Golf Punk still going?

Im a subscriber but have had just one delivery in a year, thought they'd gone bust

is 15 the monster par 3? 260+ off the whites?

Luton Hoo is a bit raw, still got a new feel, and needs a few years for the planting to come on. as it is it's wide open so wind affected.

Think that's 13. It's 261 off the whites. We played the course of the blues last year and 13 is 271

I think one of my m8's said it used to just be a 9-hole course but they extended it.

I was talking with one of the guys up there and they said they've applied to allow them to put bunkers in. Apparently they should be able to do it providing it doesn't change the view from the house.

That sounds like a pretty tidy round and the consistancy you'll need to get off single figures. Funnily enough, a course doesn't need bunkers to be a challenge. Wimbledon Common doesn't have them and it's no pushover primarily because the par 3's are so tough and that it isn't a bombing course.

If I was going to be uber critical you'll need to get your putting figure down to get to single figures but if the greens are iffy then there is obviously a margin for error there.
