How do you keep your golf shoes in good nick then?

My birthday is next Tuesday and i've asked the wife for a pair of Adidas 360 Tour's, the only thing is, the normal shoes I buy (Adidas Tour Traxion's) normally only last about 4-6 months and then the leather (always white leather, I hate black golf shoes) becomes cracked & dis-coloured.

Now, I dont want the missus to fork out £100 on shoes if the same is going to happen, so whats the secret?

I have used before a wax that I got from somewhere but that itself dis-coloured the leather, any other suggestions?

You will never get rid of the brown stain you get in the creases of the shoes, however i use dubbin on mine and then i spray them with a waterproof spray,i also use bleach occasionally when they get really dirty.I also put shoe shapers in to keep the shape.Always let them dry naturally never near the fire or radiators.

clean promptly with baby wipes, gets rid of most staining and the impregnated lotion doesn't harm the leather.
you'll still need to use something for the leather, I just use neutral polish.

Keef - Im positively 'anal' about clean shoes, so can help here

I have a pair of 360Ltd's in white, and after 2yrs they are still in pretty good nick.
As mentioned, clean them down with Baby Wipes, and then when dry, buff them up with a cloth etc.
Once they have the creases well formed, and the dirt starts to show, clean them occasionally with Woly Shoe Cream, rubbing the cream wel into the creases to re-whiten them all over, works a treat.

Ive got 2 pairs of FJ Classics too, and do same on these, and even Oil the leather soles to keep all in superb nick.

I cant abide tatty mucky shoes, and looked after well, they are worth paying good money for, and will last you.

Hope that helps.

ChrisMc a man after my own heart, I couldn't believe it when both opponents in my winter league pulled up in white (once) shoes to play in awfull conditions. I wouldn't have thrown them in the bin.My shoes get a clean and polish after every round, that's how anal I am. I save the white ones for the summer.Grubby white, nah! not for me.

Buy a nice cheap pair or others from a sale, yet most comfortable you can then don't worry about them other than wiping them with a damp cloth now and then. They will last long enough to get the value then buy another pair. The nature of golf club manufature leaves very little for you to do to maintain them to get any kind of logevity exceeding their expected lifespan which is why many have a warrantee, If you find they need a lot of maintainance, you probably have the wrong make. ;)

Totally agree that white shoes need to be kept as clean as possible or they do look horrid. I use the jet hose at the club to get most of the mud off and then give them a wipe at home to try and get as much mud out of the cracks before they dry. Slip in the shoe horns to keep their shape and leave them. I normally rub some neutral polish in every two or three rounds.

Interesting thread.
I recently bought a pair of Puma Tripper golf shoes, they must be coated with something because no amount of sand, mud, or dirt stayed on them after I brushed them, when coming of the course.
In fact they still look brand new!
Perhaps when the coating wears off, they will look like other shoes, but so far very impressed!

Mine tend to last a year, i give them a blow down with the air hose and a quick wipe, when they crack they get replaced. One of my mini pressies to myself mid year.

As echoed in the above posts anyone that has kids will know the value of baby wipes there worth there weight in gold.Iv got FJ Synr-G's ant at €165 a pair they would want to be looked after.
I cant stand dirty white shoe even in the middle of winter there is nothing worse than seeing your weekly medal full of dirty gear and that includes golf clubs and trollies and bags.
Also a wipe of babyoil should keep them resistant enough for a round or two.
And i also stuff the inside of my shoes with paper and leave it in until im ready to use them it helps keep there shape.

*shakes head*

and people wonder why their equipment doesnt last.......

Sorry but shaking your less than knowing head and making a typical remark for this forum doesnt cover it, the vast majority of golf shoes use similar materials and manufacturing process. Now there is a quality difference in materials and process as there is cost difference, but the stuff shoes are made from relative to their quality and cost would not make any significant difference if you nursemaid a pair or not. If you dont belive this, buy two pair of the same make, wear them equally in equal conditions but nursemaid one pair and leave the other alone........you won't notice the difference in wear and tear other than a little discolouration with some.

Always clean clubs and shoes after every game.

Use warm "soapy" water and an old toothbrush to clean the clubs.

Shoes cleaned again using an old toothbrush to scrub the dirt off, then polished and buffed and finally rub dubbin into the leather. Shoe trees used to keep the shoes in shape.
Keeps the shoes in good nick and the last a few years.

Simply don't have the time for any of this. I'm interested in playing golf, not being a butler to my gear.

My last set of irons lasted 17 years - probably washed 6 times.

My last pair of shoes lasted over five years - never cleaned/polished - only 'hosed' down at the club.

Does clean shoes mean I play better - no!

A quick scrape of the grooves with a tee before the shot - job done. :p

Auburn Warrier I’m with you – time dedicated to golf is playing/practicing.
Shoes get mud knocked off & put in a bag till next week. I’ll try and walk through long wet grass in ‘em if I get chance.

That said I’d love to be turning out with shiny shoes & clubs every time, but until I can pay someone to do it for me its not gonna happen - there’s always summat better to do!

Re: Another 'how do.....' question? Golf Shoes

this sounds bad but take two pair with me to the course and in any way messy the white ones stay in the locker and out with the black and after wipe down and polish and the same with the white if they get out
