Another Grip Thread - Standard+++

Just to add a further slant to the thread.

When they say, as the OP does, standard +3 layers, I'm assuming that is for correct butt and grip diameter, I.E both grip and butt are 0.600/0.580.

I've gone for the Lamkins (as above) but they only do them on Gamola in 0.580, where my TT DG shafts have a 0.600 diameter. Following some research I found if you put a bigger shaft in a smaller grip, the shaft isn't going to give so it pushes the material out and thus makes it thicker, rather than thinner as you'd expect.

The only real way to "stretch" a grip, apparently, is to pull it farther down on the shaft. A .580 grip that you don't stretch goes to the same point on a shaft as a .600 shaft... more material, thicker grip

Following a little more research it turns out if doing this the 0.20 difference in grip/butt diameter is equivalent to just over 1 layer of tape, with 1 layer being 0.15.

Basically, as per the example in the OP, if putting a 0.580 grip over a 0.600 butt it would be + 2 layers not 3.

I feel like I've actually learned something tonight :mad:

The Lamkin Performance Plus i6 are the NDUR upgrade. It looks as though Lamkin have discontinued the NDUR as they no longer appear on their website. The NDURs look like they are made with a two part process as there is a clear join between the two coloured sections. I've got an i6 for my hybrid and it's seamless and one colour but still retains the two different patterns for front and back of the grip. They've also saved a bit of weight as well as I believe the i6 are lighter. I went with NDURs because the weight was the same as the wedge grips but the i6s are very nice and with one colour they do look better. Happy shopping fella

tiger - I noticed this on the Lamkin website also. The i6 also come in a range of colours even standard black.

last night I was all set on the ndur, now there are 3 in the running lol

Yup - great Spot Gareth. I have TT DG in my clubs as well so thats good to know.

Not so much for the dots, though they are nice, more for the extra inch in length...

Doesn't matter what you say, deep down inside all blokes would be grateful for an extra inch ;)

:mmm:

On a brighter note, my grips have literally just turned up.

With a bit of luck I can get to my dads tool shed today and get them swapped over.

I'll post pics and a review of the grips when they are on.
