Another committee question for you all....

It seems a bit disrepectful to me that he would not be a member at the club he works at. The Secretary is an important member of the club and would in my opinion do better to support the hand that feeds him. That is unless the club does not allow membership from Employees, which would be a bit petty.

Of course he should be able to play at another club and participate to what ever level he desires, it would be a restrictive covenant to try and stop him.

Eh???

Who mentioned anything about membership where he works??

For the record he plays plenty at his place of work and prefers it as a 'club' to the place where he is a member and has been all his life.

As with many situations like this it isn't necessarily a conflict of interest and in most cases there would probably be no problem. The issue for me is that if he stands for committee he is leaving himself open to all sorts of criticism even if it's unfounded. He should also consider the possible flack from the club members where he is employed. If a conflict of interest does arise then the rest of the committee would also be in lumber for allowing the situation to arise in the first place. All in all I'd probably err on the side of caution and say don't stand.

Errrr don't spell it out??!!

Clean your glasses Chris.;)

And for the record,a fair few including all 3 I have either been a member of or worked at.

So you dont give the facts fully and then are rude when people make assumptions so as to give their point of view mmmmmmmmm Dodger - have you thought of taking up politics ?

Chris

I'm assuming the two clubs here are in different countries and members of different golf unions etc ;)

Can't see what all the fuss is about, unless one of the clubs has found the answer to all the current problems that afflict golf clubs in this country and don't want to share the solution ;)

To be on a club committee ,what ever type of club it maybe , would require being voted on at the AGM . Therefore if you are voted in , were is the problem . Is the clubs Bank staff ,Solicitors staff , accountants staff not allowed to be involved with other clubs ?

"All answers will be valued. " Well it certainly dont seem like it!
For the record, I answered your question so please have the manners to value it as you suggested, or didnt you mean it?

I mentioned membership where he works and still cant see why he is not a member of the club if he prefers it.

anyone willing to put there own time and effort in should be welcomed no matter how many committees they are on in my opinion.

Been watching this one…………anyone who is forward thinking should be pulled in by any club regardless of what position he holds at other clubs.

How would it be a conflict………..Ah, I secretly want this other club to fail so I’ll try and get on the committee and cock everything up.

This was a good question to start a debate about. Problem is it needs clarifying as to the exact situation as people say things to then find out that they are getting the wrong idea about what has happened. So to get it straight.......
Paid full time secretary of Golf Club A where he also plays golf at and enjoys more than Golf Club B where he is a member at. He is on the Golf Club committee at Club B and they do not have anything to do with the financial side of things as they have a board that look after that.

That's my view as well. The original posting didnt make certain things clear so I answered as I read it, and feel that the suggestions I made have been any thing but "valued". Nothing I said was rude or provocative and, like SocketRocket, question your good manners

As I have said previously the person is a member of BOTH clubs....it has been said in black and white so I am struggling to understand how you have missed it.

Thanks for the input though.

If he is a paid by one club to be secretary then he should not really be on the committee of the other club as you could have a conflict of interests. Who does he show loyalty to? The club that pays his wages or the club that he has been a member of for years, you have said that it is not as nice as where he works as secretary. So he could start using ideas that they have to try and improve his club where he is a member at. Surely both clubs would be in competition with each other for members as they are not that far apart.
