So...we are off on our annual trip to Scotland in a few weeks.

Leaving early Saturday morning we are playing Silloth on the way up. We then drive on to Boat of Garten, where we have a rented house as our base and over the week we'll be playing; Hopeman, Spey Bay, Boat of Garten and Blairgowrie (Rosemount) for definite and then a couple of either Grantown, Kingussie or Spey Valley or perhaps somewhere else depending on the weather etc; e.g. Nairn, Moray. 4 of us drive up and meet a friend who lives up there in Grantown and has all the member contacts! Was supposed to be playing Dornoch and Inverness this year, but unfortunately our contact is away on holiday, but it's no problem as there will be plenty of years we can go back.

I then get back on the Saturday and on the Sunday head down to St Mellion with another mate and the family and will be playing both courses there over 2 days, so 9 rounds of golf in 11 days!

Cannot wait! Hopefully the weather will be as kind as it has been the last few years!

you will be in for a treat this year.

we had a had a very good summer up here and most of the rough has burnt off. Plus Boat and i think Hopeman have got themselves Irons for the greens to much quicker than they have been. Nairn has done its greens in Aug and fully recovered as have most of the fairways at Moray. Spey Valley was pretty good a couple of week ago and due to play on the 4th Oct in a comp so should still be good.

I would suggest Tain and Fortrose if you are short of a couple of places as both are now in Excellent condition and fortrose will now let you play from the back tee's (still only 6000 yards) but a bit more to think about. enjoy your trip.

6085, and on a breezy day you'll cover plenty more than that
what do you think of the new tees patrick? personally think 2, 4, 11 and 12 are far better for the extra length. the new hidden fairway bunker on 6 is a bit cheeky. bunkering generally a lot better than the last few years now they are going back to the revetted faces, but still need some attention. not a big fan of the sand they've got in them.

Thanks for the information. I love Boat so looking forward to that especially if they have improved their greens even more. Thanks also for the suggestion of Tain or Fortrose. Will throw those into the mix

I can't comment on the bunkers as last time i played (first time with the new bunkers) i didn't go in any of them.

with the new tee's I would imagine you might be temped to use the driver on the on 2 but 11 and 12 are prob the only couple of holes i would use the driver on anyway.

at the end of the day the course is not very long still and the name of the game is keeping the ball in play as theres plenty of birdie chances on the back 9. All depends on how windy it is, that's all the protection the course needs imo

Wow....that is a serious amount of driving!! Enjoy your trip, I was up that way last year and played a few of the links courses including Dornoch which really is something special.

If you think Dornoch is special you should see Royal Aberdeen, it's possibly the best course I've ever played, it's certainly the best front 9 anywhere.

The Aberdeen 'big 3' are on my hitlist Val, only course in the area I've played is Cruden Bay.

RA, Murcar, Trump........not a bad little itinery :)

Silloth is currently in superb condition. Rough is burnt off and the fairways are bone hard due to no rain for weeks which is fairly amazing for up here.

I played Rosemount this morning, less than 24 hours after the Junior Ryder Cup was played there, and it was the best it has ever been. I only wish it was that good all year round.

I thought Tain was an absolute gem of a course, really varied, very enjoyable, well worth the trip north.

Completely agree Tain is a gem of a course and a real pleasure to play, I Played Fortrose, Golspie and Brora but I enjoyed Tain the most.

Also played Royal Dornoch which was the best and lived up to all my expectations of the place.
