Annual subscription 2026

Played with two lads today who are members at Newbiggin, they like it there. They also get cheap membership at Burgham as they're retired police, £150 iirc 😲
I like Newbiggin as well, really enjoyed the last couple of years but the plan was always to go back to Arcot at some point.

If I could play both days on the weekend I’d probably have kept both memberships.

Id love to see a golf club justify an increase of that magnitude to its members!!
Ours did.

Previous mismanagement and failure to raise fees in line with costs over several previous years.

Club now bleeding cash as income doesn’t even cover running costs.

New financial chair replacing mess creators so not tied to their decisions and needs to sort it out -very competent - recently retired senior CFO and accountant - she knows what needs to be done and why.

Also able to speak authoritatively to AGM to explain to members with less experience or understanding considering business finances and profit/loss.

This year’s cost increases (employer. NI etc)

Big ticket items (irrigation/drainage) at end of life and now need upgrade and replacement.

Add those together and it’s easy to see how you reach that point although getting it through an AGM or EGM is the real skill.

Ours has gone up by 6.5% ish, £1150 to 1230. Quite a dry course, rarely closed and we’ve had a maximum of 3 temp greens this winter (apart from one day when it felt as if the big flood was coming).

Happy with that increase really. I play every week, twice in the summer months, so I definitely get value for money.

@Bazz which club is it that’s put in padel courts? Just being nosey as I know you’re near me!

The Mount, previously known as Perton. 👍🏾

Assumed it would be, they seem to be going for an all round golf and leisure facility. Played there last year for the first time in a while, the new owners have definitely made some nice improvements to the clubhouse.

Interesting sense of perspective here. You describe it as quite a dry course but then it has 3 temp greens (I’m assuming due to water logging).

Not sure where you are but we had rain every day for nigh on 2 months. As I say, 1 day after a particularly bad downpour which lasted a few days, we had all temps for a day. Then it was just the 3. Considering every other course I knew of was either closed or on full temp greens and tees, that strikes me as being pretty dry and well draining.

I’ve been there 2 years and this was the first time we’ve had any temps in that time.

I thought it was an interesting perspective Tim d because it came across as pragmatic and accepting of the course and the weather, rather than many members who have unrealistic expectations. If you were a member at a links course you would probably have much higher expectations, but you’re not. Better to be realistic.

Last year we came down from £1400 to £1000 for 7 days & did away with the 5-day membership. It's now a very acceptable £1,050 for 12 months golf as the 'course shuts its self'.
Other N Leeds courses are at least £15 to £17K with joining fees. We have folk flockling back.... & mostly young'ans.
