Annual subscription 2026

A lot of people will consider the cost per game and every day closed just bumps this up.
A lot of players a couple of years ago when we had a wet winter and were on a fee plus £x per game downgraded to less fee more £ per game as they when they did the maths it made sense, although this meant less income for the courses.
Courses that were burnt and Mickey Mouse in the height of the playing season last summer and are now shut or restricted for swathes of the winter will have some members at the margins questioning value - more so than ever.

Ours will be going up about £50 to just under £1300 for full 7 day membership. Annoyingly, some of the committee were pushing for more of a raise because other local courses charge more and we are better than those courses. Not the best reason for a big hike, especially when other areas of the club (range and clubhouse) are well in profit.
A previous club of mine decided to start increasing subs using that argument. I think it's a stupid approach, cost the club members in that instance.

Well as of an hour ago I’m officially a member of a club again. Bargain of a deal they only charged me £129 for the next 3 months to take me to the end of their membership year. Just waiting to hear what the next years subs will be at the start of July but looks like it’ll be around £900 which will do nicely.

Feel good to be part of something again, now just need it to stop raining 🤣
Bargain

Just had the email.

Full playing membership subs from 1st April £1,402

Course closed for third day in a row. I think there might be people considering their options.

Not me though. 🧐
They won't get rid of me that cheaply. 🤨
For full membership including affiliation fee's that is exactly the same as ours. This year I get a 5% loyalty discount taking it down to £1,333.

We've also been closed since Friday, and given the flooding we had on the course, I doubt it will be open before the middle of the week. Disappointing but with the warmer wetter winters we are now having, even with the mitigation plans we have I doubt it will improve greatly.

We've had alot of works done over the winter and members can see the improvements, so I doubt we will see a big exodus.

I pay £50 a month for a health club membership and its 9 hole course, which has been great for me as a beginner golfer. It has however been shut for over two months now due to being waterlogged.

I'm on a £200 winter membership elsewhere, but that course virtually never closes as it drains amazingly well. Good way of plugging the gap I guess.

Played with two lads today who are members at Newbiggin, they like it there. They also get cheap membership at Burgham as they're retired police, £150 iirc 😲
Our club used to have a special rate for police and firefighters, but I think it has disappeared over the years - unfortunately.

Yes, the police used to get cheap membership at matfen hall too, circa £100--130
When members were paying nearly a grand

Didn't last long after the new owners took over and scrapped it.

It absolutely steams the full paying members.

The police members get full rights, no restrictions. For a fraction of the price 🤬

We are going to get stiffed with a 6.9% increase which I think takes us just over the £2k a year mark, the course is great but the clubhouse & food aren't, had I not been a member for 35 years I would seriously look elsewhere. Since the push for golf to be open to all our member profile has shifted and not in a good way. This will be my first year of not entering the clubs major board comps as frankly there are too many people who I would not want to spend 4 hours with.

Club captains this year are running a 400 ticket £20/ticket lottery for members renewing - with winner getting their subs ‘repaid’. Limited to 5/member. If all tickets are sold (currently 311 sold) about £5800 will be raised for their charity (Altzheimer Research). I’ve got a ticket and though it’s unlikely I’ll win I’m happy with my donation to the charity.

I’ll add….there is a bit of a kerfuffle at this renewal as the club is changing our policy in respect of free unlimited range balls for members. Such is the popularity of it, and with increasing related costs, we are limiting free balls to 75/day. After that we can purchase an allowance of 125/day for £10/month, or £2.50 for 25. The initial proposal was 50/day but feedback was that that wasn’t enough…so the 75.

Why the fuss? Well we pay a lot for our membership and some members considered free unlimited balls a great benefit. I think it still is. Rare is the day I’ll hit more than 75 balls on the range.

This used to be my attitude - “ I’ve got to play once a week to make it worth while “ and my membership become less enjoyable especially during wet months, then a close friend made me look on it different.

Would you rather pay 150 to play 1 enjoyable round per month or 150 to play 4 un enjoyable rounds in mud/rain/frost etc.

I’ve played twice since Christmas but enjoyed both throughly and haven’t missed the 4 in heavy rain or the 2 after a full week of rain.

Quality over quantity.

Only two more years after this one and then I get a good discount for 40 years continuous membership.
Unless some shifting of goalposts occurs.

I guess, like a lot of us, I used to play around 3 times a week, more in summer. But it was once a week by the time I left the U.K., but twice a week over here in the sun. I enjoyed competitions in the latter years but, for me, the buzz was the company out on the course and around the snooker table afterwards.

Do you even bother trying to read putts... You must know every break like the back of your hand.. Lol.
Yes, something like that.

Not merely 1989 to now, but also 1973 to 1979 - is my experience on these greens.
I do seem to do fairly well on the 2s sweeps.
Ah, and then there's the fact that I've been using the same putter since 1989.
