I think by profit in this sense, it means money that is earned by the club that isn’t reinvested somehow back into running of the club or facilities of the club. In a proprietary club surplus funds or profits can often be not reinvested.

What roughly is the difference in price?
I’m on the waiting list for Goswick Country membership, it’s approx £300.00 cheaper than full membership, but has no restrictions on when I can play or how often.
The only difference I am aware of is that I have no voting rights

Some clubs have difference access rights
Some are changing from a country membership to now having a “second club” membership
Cost for a country member is a tenth of the full price at our place

First I’ve ever heard of restrictions on number of games for Country Membership. The only difference I was aware of between different clubs was the distance amount of prime residence from the club.

Same here never known a club that places a limit on the number of rounds a country member could have. I was offered country membership based on my working away all week and only using club at weekends with unlimited rounds and rights to vote as any full member. I declined as I’m moving back full time to my home address so will be using it 4-5 days a week including weekends so didn’t feel right taking that offer even though I could have essentially got a cheaper years subs.

My club has a different thing for that. It's called 'lifestyle' membership - used to be £800, not sure if it still is, so bit less than half of a full membership - and it gets you X number of 'credits' which are essentially like green fees. If you use them all up early you can pay a bit more to get some more credits. I don't think you're allowed to enter board comps if you're on this membership.

Country Membership is different at many different clubs
A lot of the top links courses have a country membership but most have it as the second membership to give them a links course or at some of the top 100 courses but in the cases for most the country membership can’t be their main one
Some have it as international membership - Woburn etc have a lot of them
Some like Sheringham etc have the “second club” membership
Our country membership is purely for existing members only who are moving out of the area and will only be having fleeting visits but you can’t join as a country member

You’d be better of calling it “Members moving out the area but want to stay in touch membership”.
Not really a Country Membership if only available to members who are moving out of area and no one else.
Nice of the Club to look after those members whose situation has changed.

We offer a similar membership, initial membership fee gets you 24 rounds - however you can only top up once in a year. The club nearest me also offers a points deal.

A few years back our club offered lifetime membership for a lump sum payment provided you were over a certain age limit, I worked out I needed to play for another 14 years to break even at best. That 14 years would have been reached this year but I am now thinking about giving up playing due to my health.

I really can’t see the issue with a £250 levy providing you can use it. This weeks comp included a breaky and was £15.00 and a round of drinks for our 4 ball was around the same, that’s over 10% spent in 1 day.
£20 a month is hardly extortionate unless you’re a carpark member who never uses the club house, enter comps etc etc.
