Annual subscription 2026

A good percentage of levy’s also then offer the card holder discount (ie 10% off food) - would you expect to still receive the discount with the levy?

The additional convenience of knowing I have money on my card means my comps are paid from that card as is my post round drinks or mid round coffee so I don’t have to remember taking cash to the club or faff around with my wallet.

Nope I wouldn’t expect to receive a discount and I’d have no issue with that considering I only drink coffee or soft drinks outside of my own home. So my spends are minimal and I don’t see any issue with tapping my card or phone to pay as one of them is always on me.

Well, you said: "Pay up or leave the club! How very welcoming!"
Sounded like you thought there should be a third option.
you’re right I did make that statement. Why does there need to be a 3rd option there doesn’t in my opinion. My opinion is plain and simple I don’t agree with enforced Levy’s. I’m entitled to hold that without offering 3rd option. As above I’m happy to pay full price as and when I use and make a purchase at the club.

I really can’t see the issue with a £250 levy providing you can use it. This weeks comp included a breaky and was £15.00 and a round of drinks for our 4 ball was around the same, that’s over 10% spent in 1 day.

£20 a month is hardly extortionate unless you’re a carpark member who never uses the club house, enter comps etc etc. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Not all clubs allow the levy to be used for entering competitions.

And then you leave if you don’t want it 🤷‍♂️

There is your choice

Always a choice

But a levy being introduced will more than likely go through an EGM and a members vote
Not always that easy Phil. particularly if you've paid a joining fee. Not all members clubs have votes on levies, subs increases. The "board" decide and that's it.

Does your club have a levy
2 clubs no....the return to the original club, maybe. Why is that a point on whether it is forced? A small levy I can live with since I will easily use it.....but as has been said before WHY do you need to do this? Just let normal business happen. If the kitchen/bar is GOOD, they will make money. If they are crap....they don't need the club to put a levy on to make things happy happy.

Will all depend on what a levy is being introduced for - short term project , to try and get people into the clubhouse etc

Lots of reasons

But again when someone joins they should be aware of what process is in place for various items

And if someone isn’t happy with the way its run then the choice to not join that club is there always

Based on this thread most are saying it’s not just behind the bar, ours is bar, comp entries, half way hut and pro shop.

It’s also a way of enticing people to be sociable and mix with others, not just be car park members.
Think the early posts were very much about bar (only) levy, later some more 'general levy' were posted, but didn't always make clear initially that were more than a bar levy.

How long until spring is it?
😉

Why a club puts a levy on will be down to those clubs reason

If the club doesn’t have one then no need to worry , if the club has a small one that you don’t mind as you will spend it anyway then no need to worry

Most clubs yearly bar levy is small and 99% will spend it

Some bigger clubs will offer a levy that covers all the areas

Again - join a club that suits what you want

So....why put a bar levy on? You are waffling. WHY put a levy on? Serious question. I think that a bar/kitchen that is good will get plenty of business......one that is crap won't. What does a levy do that good business won't?

As I said - club may have a levy for multiple reasons and it may include a way to encourage people to use the facilities

It might to be a historical levy that’s just kept going because no one is bothered by it

the levy is long standing moan and mainly it’s from people whose club don’t even have one so moaning about the idea of one instead

We don’t get any moans about our levy , so it’s clearly not an issue for the members

If you have a good catering function and everyone pays far more than the levy anyway, why is there a levy?

Surely the only reason for having one is to nudge/force/coerce those that wouldn’t otherwise contribute that amount in a year to pay that amount for goods and services that by choice they wouldn’t normally do.

The only other rationale could be cash flow but if the club just after renewal subs have come has cash flow problems then they have bigger fish to fry.

You are very defensive on the "levy". Now.....I have no real negative attitude about a levy if there is a GOOD reason to have one. I just don't understand what that "good" reason is.....you haven't explained why there is a standard GOOD reason to have one. A "good" restaurant/bar gets plenty of business....a bad bar, not so much. Is the reason for a levy to protect an "iffy" product?

Not defensive about levys it’s a clubs choice to make and what is a good reason for having one will be up to the club which have one in place

As been mentioned a few times clubs use levys for different reasons and many prob just keep them going

You prob won’t ever get a definitive answer that covers every single club that has a levy

So not much left to say to stop going round in circles

So.......a "good" reason to have a levy is.....?? I could have missed something in earlier posts....maybe a levy could help establish a new bar crew....?

My God!!!!!! Weve established that some people like a levy, some aren't sure and some don't like them.
None of you are likely to agree with each other, and are now going roind in circles.
Please can we stop trying to prove one view is right or wrong and get back to what this thread was about: increase in fees.
This is why I took some time away from the forum, and I'm likely to do so again at this rate.
