Annual Review

Means there's no incentive for an individual to go lower than the boundary and a real temptation for a Club to 'manage' certain handicaps! I'm as certain as I can be that happened at one previous club!

Could well be, as it is seen as very prestigious to do well in it.

Oooooo I have got a whopper on this hook joking aside I'd I had aimed the comment at anyone I would have named you it's a generalisation of golfers at many clubs who think because they play below there hcp a few times in knock about games they deserve to be lower than what is says on the hcp list well no your not you need to work a little harder and let your golf get you down

Well, in the context of the thread, that post appeared rather daft! Not so much a case of catching a whopper as standing on a mound and saying 'I'm a Richard'!

That is a fair comment Duncan. I guess it's because I am playing way better than 10 albeit in fun/swindle games and, whilst being called a bandit is a backhanded compliment, it does get a wee bit tiring.

ah well, if you have a known life outside Q rounds, and if you have no more Q rounds this calendar year, I would have thought -1 realistic.

the alternative would be 0 but with an active watching brief over the early part of next season and a 'manual ESR' - after all ESR's are only supposed to reflect what a good HC committee would be doing anyway!

they have made a number of sensible changes to the CONGU manual wef the end of this year, but one that I didn't see but thought wrong was to remove the calendar year thing in respect of ESR (probably consider them both too new and still too controversial to tinker).

a question?

If you play 4 times a week ( as mentioned in another thread a few weeks ago) and have asp to get your handicap lower, why have you only played 10 comps?

i would say the best way to get lower is play every comp you can and not rely AR to get lower!

The ladies don't have as many qualifiers as the men so often a Tuesday will be a fun game. Then there were club matches a plenty, The Jean Wilkinson, Grace Norman Trophies (matchplay) plus scratch matches, county foursomes, mixed opens etc etc. Just the way it turned out this year but something I hope to address next year by dipping out of some of the club matches/events.

I only even contemplated the AR when I read this thread and did the maths so not relying on it at all. If not by AR I fully expect to knock a couple more shots off next season...

I think the ladies at my club have more than the men, they have a comp every tues thoughout the season May to End Oct. The men have weeks sometimes with nothing.

We have comps on a Tuesday but many aren't qualifiers plus club matches are often on Tuesdays. The men have 2 a week usually - every Wed and one weekend day. I think we have enough qualifiers but as it was my first year at the club I was keen to get involved in everything which often meant I couldn't play the medals/stableford comps.

Opposite at my place, men have a comp every Wednesday. In July and August I was only able to play 3 home qualifiers despite it notionally being the height of the season and I play in everything I can.....

There's always the supplementary card option?

Ha! A whole new can of worms. Generally I've seen them as for those players that risk going inactive as they can't play the required qualifiers. Next year I may do a few if things go the same way.

Edit - as the SSS is 1 over the par they may be worth doing :-)
