Annoyed

Mono.

You say that you bought the Scottie off the Forum, off a Forum member.

Firstly, you haven't bought anything off the Forum. The Forum offers nothing for sale. It is people on the Forum who may offer items for sale.

Was this item offered for sale in the For Sale section? If so, I can't find it (although being an oldie and not very IT literate I may have missed it). If not, then this is a private matter between you and the vendor and not something that should be aired on a public forum.

Although, as has been said, it does highlight the need to be sure that you can trust the other party when parting with your cash. Which, on an internet forum with no real comeback, is tricky.

This is kind of why I was against having a for sale section in the forum back in the days when it was being considered. There will always be disputes, and that is where it gets messy. Especially given the cost of golf gear. It isn't cheap.

I thinks its ok to have a for sale section but there should be some guidlines to stop people making mistakes by being over trusting ie always post special delivery, always pay with something like Paypal etc.

Forget guidelines, Common sense is all that is needed when buying and selling golf gear.

I personally would not buy off any one on here unless the deal was being done face to face, thats why I will only buy from someone who lives within reasonable distance of me.

I agree with Colin, the use of Paypal is the best way to make payments over the interweb to strangers.

Mono I have a Hippo OS4 putter you can have, £50 and its yours please send you card details and security pin thanks ;)

Why forget guidelines ? If Mono had paid with paypal he'd be able to get his money back. He's a young lad who would probably have benefited from some advice

But why should GM need to tell him that?

Mono does enough buying and selling on ebay to know paypal offers this service....

Failing that make the buying and selling section for people over 18yrs old.

What harm would it do ?? I don't understand why you're so against it. Not everyone buys on ebay, forums etc so a few tips might just help the inexperienced. I'm not saying it's GM's responsibility, I'm saying it's something simple to do that would lower the chance of potential conflicts.

Ok i agree a guidelines section would possibly eradicate this but 99.9% of forum members would not just pay x amount of cash to a stranger before seeing or receiving any goods.

Mono's problem is that with no proof of payment for this item he will struggle to get his money back or matey could simply say that he did send the item but its been lost in the post....

I suppose that from a legal standpoint, offering guidelines and advice could imply a degree of responsibility for the transaction and that is something to avoid. In any event, my understanding here is that the transaction was not advertised on or conducted through the forum and so really does not warrant debate. The fact that 2 forum members may have been involved is irrelevant and it may as well have been 2 strangers who met in the street.
