Andy Murray

Couple of not so well kent things about Andy...he was a pupil at Dunblane Primary when Thomas Hamilton murdered 17 people, Andy hid under his desk during the attack. This is a big reason why he's quiet imo.

His Grandad played for Hibernian and Andy 'supports' Hibs because of this. His knowledge of the club is sketchy at best, but he has attended a few games recently, not as many as his brother, mind.

I like Andy, not arsed about Tennis.

Alas, a member of my family didn't get out of Hamilton's way. Agree it must weigh heavily, not sure how I would "cope" with it.

Well played today, hope he wins another on Sunday, no real interest in his personality as not going to invite him round for dinner, just want to see him win tennis matches!

Very sorry to hear that.I call recall the day vividly.I was working in a property surveyors at the time and when the news broke my boss almost collapsed...his nephew went to the school and back then, it took a while to find out what was happening. Can't imagine the feeling.

Reminds me of Paul Lawrie and Gordon Strachen, just plain talking, no airs and graces. I like him. Does he golf?

Well done Andy - great win. We should ALL celebrate him - can't understand why some folk are so anti-Andy. OK he's Scottish - just get over it. It will probably be a good long while before we have another tennis player regularly getting to the semis and finals of the Grand Slam tournaments.

BTW - He's bound to play golf - whether he likes it or is any good is another matter.

Agreed he played great and I almost wondered if he was toying with Federer but that would be daft as a 5 setter isn't the best preparation for a final. Then again at least he faces the carpet-headed-one having been pushed which he hadn't previously in the tournament.

I really try to like him. His reaction after Wimbledon got some flak but I warmed to him so much for showing how strongly he felt. Then the next umpteen interviews he just comes across as if it's all too much trouble and borderline arrogant. Then SPOTY he was training and couldn't be bothered to turn up for the show - not alone for sure but just another seemingly arrogant up yours gesture.

I do admire how he's worked hard and made the best of what he has. His physique now is something to admire and must have taken some serious hours in the gym as he was always so skinny and injury-prone. I hope he wins on Sunday and, apart from Fed who I think is supreme, I'd want Andy to beat any other player out there.

Fed is done at the very top level, he's not as physically fit as Djokovic or Andy and his natural ability isn't enough any more to compensate it seems.
Have a bad feeling Djokovic will be too much for Murray come Sunday but hoping I'm wrong.
Lendl must take credit for instilling some much needed steel into Murrays psyche that his former coaches couldn't, the meltdowns don't seem to happen like they used to.
Could be a Murray/Djokovic rivalry for the next 2 or 3 years, Fed and Nadal are too old and too injured respectively and the rest are too far back.

Murray's fitness, physique and strength are phenomenal and he now knows how to win and how to handle himself. Lendl must take a lot of credit for that. The final v Djokovic will be another great occasion, regardless of who wins. Djokovic is the bookies' favourite and he simply blew Ferrer away yesterday. I would love Murray to win but Djokovic is so mentally and physically tough that I suspect the Serb will come out on top in 4 sets.

Notice what Murray often does when he loses a point. To me it appears that he looks towards his 'team'. I suspect he looks straight into Lendl's eyes. And in Lendl's eyes he will see a steely, calm determination that takes his thoughts away from the loss of the point but to the matter in hand - winning the next point - one point at a time. Whether the game or set is likely to be lost - he will focus on winning the next point.

One of the commentators got it right regarding Murrays coaches. Previous ones told him what he wanted to hear. Lendl tells him what he needs to hear. Murray is a lot more attacking now, and hit a lot more winners than Federer. His forehand is more of a weapon, and he stayed nice and calm in the final set.

Hopefully it will be as good a final, as last years semi final between Murray amnd Djokovic, with just a different result. Another five hour, five set classic.

And his Uncle chops it around the golf course with my old man.

Great match today!

I was flipping between this and the golf at Abu Dhabi!

Altogether a much more 'settled' player these days. Whether it's Lendl or the US Open win (did Lendll help there too?) is uncertain. Serve was a major weapon today, though work needed on weak second. Forehand always feared. Great to see he's being more aggressive everywhere. Does need to figure out a better approach to Tiebreakers though.

Great to see the 'court owner' there and quite bubbly. I was actually on the service line for the first, evening, men's match with the roof closed - involving Lendl, who won the tournament that year (1989).

Just don't like him. No idea why. He's a bit like monty. Surly git. Nothing to do with being Scottish, just not likable in any way. Not keen on djocko either, but him over Murray. No idea why?

A year or so ago you could have bet your last quid he would have lost that match.
Now hes a different animal, over powered Federer quite comfortably.
He can beat Djokovic if hes mentally ready.

As someone once famously wrote 'You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes - you just might get what you need'
