Andrew Mitchell

We all fall into the trap of "Off with their head" culture. It seems that nowadays anyone who strays off the path have to lose their jobs. Come on! all of us are guilty of saying things we know we shouldn't have in our day to day life but hopefully no one demands we lose our livelihood.
I know how arrogant and egotistical politicians are, that is why they are politicians. They are overpaid, overvalued blights but we need them as someone has to run the country. I'm not sticking up for him in anyway, he was wrong, I'm sure the copper played his part too. We know they can have their moments at times...When was it acceptable for a policeman to address a member of the public as "Mate"?
Tell him off, smack his legs but no way should he lose his position if it happens to him it could happen to you one day.

Truth is that we've all been prevented from doing something simple by an over-officious steward, policeman or security and have got very frustrated. Now I may or may not curse at the steward or security guy and maybe call them tw*t or ar**s or whatever. But I wouldn't say it to a bobby - no matter how how pathetic or petty I thought he or she was being. I just wouldn't - simply as I was brought up to respect the uniform.

The other separate matter is calling someone a pleb. I might - but it would be in jest - in anger - nope...maybe it is that which paints the picture of the guy. And now the eedjit goes into 'denial' mode that only makes things worse for him as the implication is then that either he or the police are lying. When in a hole...

I wasn't aware how insulting the word 'pleb' is. I'm sure I have been called lot's of times by lot's of people in jest and I have never taken offense...we'll not enough to demand someone resigns his position. I too was brought up to respect the uniform of a policeman however I do not think policemen are brought up to respect the public in the same way. Yes it is a very difficult job. They do not tend to see the good side of society. Not everyone they meet though in the course of their daily duties are criminals. I sometimes think some of them lose sight of that.

I don't believe that it's now a matter of what he said, if he had owned up to what he said and apologised then I'm sure it would be a virtual slap on the legs and dont do it again.

However, the police logs have noted his exact expletive then the word plebs, Andrew Mitchel is not denying these exact words but is denying saying "the words attributed to him"............

Someone somewhere is telling a porkys, so its now about his integrity and moral standing while in this very senior and influential position and not about the fact he lost his rag then apologised, that would have been news for 5 minutes.

Even the deputy PM is saying he needs to affirm what he said.

On a human being level I wouldnt say that to a policemen or anyone who was possibly being officious.

Big deal!
He's been named, he's been shamed, now lets all laugh at him and move on!
Two female police officers have recently been brutally murdered and yet we are hearing more about an ignorant MP because he swore and used the word 'pleb'.
PERSPECTIVE...................................where the hell has it gone!

I think the point is that people are upset because he spoke like that to the officer on the same week that the two PWC's were killed.
Not sure that I would like someone with such poor judgment running the country.

I totally accept that, but the whole essence of temper loss is that things are said & done without the benefit of any foretought.
I'm sure we've all said and/or done things we regret 'in the heat of the moment' without taking time to look at the big picture, let alone think about what's happened in the news recently.
He has apologised to the policeman & the policeman has accepted his apology................let's move on.
Oh no, wait a minute, maybe we can score a few political points by dragging this out a bit longer.
Obviously those demanding his immediate resignation are all whiter than white and totally beyond reproach for anything they have ever done!
It makes my blood boil.

The government spin machine is now in full operation and they are putting around the word used was not 'Pleb' but 'Plod'.

I just find it inexcusable what he did or said regardless of how bad a day he had. The police are there to protect members of parliament and no matter who you are you should do as they ask and not verbally abuse them if you don't like what they are asking you to do.

Because you've never said or done anything that, in retrospect, maybe you shouldn't have.
Pleb.........Plod.........off with his head, I've never heard anything so disgusting .

I worked 20 years as a local authority officer.
If I had behaved like Mr Mitchell I would have been sacked so to answer your continuing question, No I have never done anything remotely like he did.
Pathetic little whimp. Says that he had had a long tiring day but that was no excuse.....why mention it then.
Most people who work have long tiring days.

The word 'pleb' is obviously not as intrinsically offensive as many, but the subtext is that of an officious Tory giving the DYKWIA* to some peasants who appear not to know or adequately respect their social betters. They should have doffed their caps and averted their gaze as the great man walked by.

It is hypocrisy then for the same type of politicians to come out and score political points for supporting the same 'plebs' and the great job they do in public statements.

There is also the question of him now appearing to lie about what he actually said. Either he or the policemen are lying.

Seemingly Thrasher's parting words to the policeman were,' You have not heard the last of this'.

Well seems he got that one correct.

The long and frustrating day also involved an expensive lunch. Maybees they had a dissapointing wine list!!

Just for the record the policeMAN he swore at was a ... policeWOMAN but maybe that is the reason he behaved the way he did. A policeman came to add support and they were then offered the above parting shot!
