An After Round Beer

Zero policy is a good idea, so everyone nows were they are? Also not being judgemental but the majority of after match drinkers at my club and others I've played at seem to be of the older / retired majority. Is it just an age thing i.e years ago not being a drink drive law?

I'm one of the older generation and have to admit, when younger - in my twenties I used to drink and drive!
I shudder at the thought of it now though. I've never told my Son this, as I've drilled in to him about not drinking at all whilst driving. That's something he doesn't need to know.

But I do agree, it's usually the older guys that are the worst offenders.

Normally walk to and from the club as my bag is in my locker and it's about a 5 min walk, so have the freedom for a couple of drinks if I feel like it.

If I have the car only one pint of shandy, or a OJ and lemondade.

there should be a zero policy for drink when driving. That way there can be no arguments. If you drive, don't drink, simples.

Don't think it's that simple. What if you drink 2 pints the night before and don't drive. How do you know all the alcohol has left your system the next morning if you have to drive?

Zero policy could see you arrested when you might only have a minute amount in your blood.
I think there will always have to a be a limit. Whether it should be reduced? Now that's feasible.

I think every driver should own their own breathalyser. They could use it in the morning to make sure they're not over the limit from the night before and they could use it if they have a couple of pints during the day/night.

That way, there's no doubt as to whether they can drive or not.

It just needs a company to mass produce them - cheaply....

Good point this. The level of alcohol in the body so uncertain and subjective. Make an easily affordable home breathalyser and there is no excuse. Have them on the bar in pubs so you can test yourself and, most importantly, ensure there are ample afordable taxis. When I lived in Rutland I could never go further than my village as youhad to book a cab at least a week in advance and it cost a fortune. Now I can get a cab for £3.00 into town and get one when I want I am out far more and will even get a cab to do the shopping the next day if I had a skinful the night before.

I've heard discussions about this before, and zero tolerance isn't possible not just because of the reason above, but there is a small amount of naturally occurring alcohol in our bodies anyway, which would vary from person to person making it impossible to set a base level.

Maybe I'm not reading properly, and this is not having a pop at anyone, but I'm astonished that the only reason people are citing for not drinking and driving is the risk of getting caught!

Nothing to do with the increased risk of having an accident.

:)

I see what you're saying Rick, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made. Take my Brother for instance, who works for Network Rail as a Safety Officer. He is not allowed to have any alcohol in his system at any time and nor those that he is in charge of. Also he can be randomly tested at any time and if found to be positive it's instant dismissal.
Now I know that's a bit extreme to what we're talking about but shows it can be done.

Now I like Auburns idea of self breathalising - interesting. :)

Don't drink these days but as we're a one car family HID picks me up anyway. We've a few at the club that have more that they should and drive. As our entrance is tucked away, it isn't unknown for the police to sit unseen back from the entrance and then follow a car out to the main road

I am not a big one for the bar after a round, a lot of bs flying around the place. Played 18 today, 12.30 tee off,our 3 ball just got in before dark and had a new years pint with the lads. The Guinness tasted like more.
After the 1 pint dropped into our best mates, who had the kettle on and had a lovely cup of tea and some nice apple crumble.
Golf is too good, a links course, 4 miles from my my house and tea and apple crumble on the way home and no hid's to nag.

At my mates club there was a guy who every single day used to turn up at 12.00, have 4 pints before going out with the swindle, get back in and have another 5/6 pints before driving home.

Mate grassed him up but he never got caught that way, eventually he went through a red-light, got tonked, the law turned-up and he got busted.

I will usually have 2 pints after a game, I know I am fine to drive on 2 pints by a long way.

I use the lockers in the clubhouse for clubs, caddycar and change of clothes. This allows me to use public transport from my door (well, 50 yards from my door) to the first tee AND being of a certain age - all free!

This does allow a degree of freedom when considering should or should I not have that second wine and allows me also to make full use of my clubhouse facilities (showers etc) and then relax right back to my front door.

Public transport .... pure magic for this fellow!
