Americanisms

My daughter was on year exchange study at a university in Ohio USA a few years ago. Apart from constantly being mistaken for an Australian, an American student being polite asked her where she came from. She replied England, Oh My! Said the Student “Don’t you speak good American” My daughter said she didn’t bother trying to explain, just accepted the compliment

Our company works with an importer in California and the other day I emailed one of the "dudes" there with a question.

His reply began: "Thank you for reaching out to me. Let's see if we can work something out".

Reach out? I'd need bloody long arms to do that you galoot!!

It's maths not Math!!!

And their silly imperial system (or English units) :-) feet and inches??? Yards ?? No thanks it's the SI for me mm and meters thanks :-p
actually I think they've got this one right like a lot of the oldies on the forum will. I can't visualise in cms or mms but at least a yard is close to a Metre so I can almost do that.
By the way, I noted that you used the American spelling for your meters

to be pedantic, US weights and measures are based on pre-1834 English units, ie they predate Imperial units.
