Amazon Prime

Can she be moved to another room easily?

Have you asked her?

There is an irony in asking questions on here about a device which is there to answer questions. We have an Alexa, perhaps a relative of yours, and we use it as a speaker only on the whole. It is a cracking speaker for our needs. At some point we will look into it more and perhaps make use of what it is genuinely about. Until then, 'Alexa connect'................

And the earth is flat, elvis is alive and JFK was shot by the CIA.

Thanks for such a clever and sensible response.

Control, or lack-off, of 'open mic' devices can be a security issue - depending how comprehensive and interconnected your home network might be.

That and if your planning to commit any crimes at home

The Amazon Alexa app has been downloaded over 10,000,000 times and thats just on android.

How many 'listeners' would they need if it were true about open mic (which I doubt)

I've gone the other way and got the Google home, bought a mini for another room.
Great piece of kit, not really used it to it's full potential so far but have ordered some of the switches above (thx for the link btw).

Alexa can control lighting, How???? Do we need need switches? Oh and temperature and heating and and and. How????? Has anyone done this? Yes LT I get the irony now.

Incidentally, I wasn't laughing at you. I do the same. At some point I need to look at all the things Alexa can do and see if I want to go along with it or just keep using it as a speaker.

I don't get the lighting or heating thing either. Presumably it needs to be joined up with some programme. Come the Tomorrow's World house...............

The 'security' issues aren't about the Orwellian fear of big brother Amazon (although there's that side) the interconnection of the home alarms etc. can be exploited by the use of speakers etc. As yet these systems are pretty dumb: however, as AI develops then these devices can become more discerning in interpreting the origins and purpose of commands.
