Now you may hate their annual releases of the next big thing, but this took my breath away.

There was a TaylorMade comp up at Canary Wharf last month, and while I came nowhere near winning the comp, I was chatting to one of the reps, who when I mentioned that my Captaincy was coming to an end, and I only had one more comp to sort prizes for. The guy says, "email me with dates, and I'll send something out to you.". I was thinking he meant a couple of shirts, some balls and gloves, maybe a wedge or putter at most, so emailed him.

I thought nothing more about it until yesterday when I get an email asking where I'd like it delivered. It arrives in work today, in a very large box. I open it and discover he'd sent...

A 2013 Open tour bag, retailing at £289! For free!

Not only that, but it's signed... BY JUSTIN ROSE!!!

So I now have to work out if I auction it at the Captains' Ball, or just run a sweepstake it at the club.

Either way, it's going to raise a nice bit of cash for our charities, so major, major, major thanks to TaylorMade!

That is absolute quality! Hats off to Taylormade, should raise a LOT of money for your charity. I would go for the raffle option, reckon that could raise more than a straight auction.

What is/are the charity/ies?

The Valence School for severely handicapped children (across from the golf club) and Alzheimer's Research UK.

My company also has a scheme where they will match up to £5,000 charitable donations per employee per year. So far we've raised £4,200, with just the one event left, so that means I can double up the full amount.

Sounds good, especially an auction, did the letter of authenticity re Rose come with it? Ensures decent money.

It didn't, but as I'm planning on selling it to members of the golf club, no-one's going to quibble... I hope! ;)

Worth asking the rep vai email to send confirmation on TM paper authenticating it- it really does add a lot of value:cool:

Personally I'd go for a raffle to give all the members a chance to own it. The problem with an auction is that only those with lots of spare cash can get it, I just get brassed off with some monied oik buying at charity auctions just because they can!

I kind of agree, but trouble is Chris, we've only got 53 at the ball. So a fiver each only makes us £265, which I don't think is enough, and we've got a good few non-golfers too, so reckon we'd get less than £225.

If I an auction, I could get a fair bit more I think. Could do a sweepstake outside the ball, or extend the raffle out to allow people to enter in the pro-shop too.

Things to think about.
