Yesterday in my clubs 4BBB Winter league final, our playing partners (4 teams in the final) won it with 45pts.

At 3/4 handicap, this is pretty impressive. However, what made it even more impressive (borderline ridiculous) is that they were on 7pts after 5 holes!!

Yep, they played the last 13 holes in 12 under par! The performance of the 16 handicapper was excellent and the 2 handicapper chipped in with 5 birdies.

Made our 42pts (15greens in regulation and no putt holed outside 3ft) look purely pedestrian!

anyone else seen such a crazy run of holes before?

Our 4BBB on Sat off full handicap was won with 52 points.

That's a cracking score but the format is forgiving.

You get days when everyone is scoring and then others when you cant combine a good pair of scores for anything.

Saturday we had a an AM-AM event (best 2 to score) and we thought we would be last with a paltry 76 points - ended up only won with an 86 and we were well up the field.

In terms of a run I have seen similar in a club B-team game last year my PP and I were beaten 10 & 8 (much to our embarrassment) but the guy who was 24 HC playing off the max 17 allowed birdied about 8 of those and we couldn't even take a hole by parring it with a shot! When the team captain asked how we were doing at the turn and we said nine down he nearly choked. On one had it was great to see someone playing out of their skin and on the other very difficult to keep your own emotions in check. I would say that I have absolutely no doubt that this guy was 100% genuine as well so just one of those days.

We managed 42 points on Saturday (like you, 3/4 handicaps), didn't even manage a top 10.

Sometimes I think that being a good steady golfer will never get me anywhere, birdie/bogey golf seems to be the way to win!

I think this is a really good point. For example, if you regularly shoot between 5-8 over because you par 9, 10, 11 holes with one birdie per round, then there isn't really much room to have a crazy round where you finish very low.

If you have it in you to achieve birdies, then one day you'll make loads of them in a round and shoot gross scratch or under.

But if you are a steady-eddie, then this is less likely.

Agree with this, if you are a higher handicapper with the potential to shoot a few pars or even better a couple of birdies then you are never short of partner invites for pairs comps at my club. The better player keeps the score ticking over whilst looking for the other player to score a few 4 or 5 point holes.

So, what you're saying is, I need to find a better partner!

This weekends Sat and Sun Capts Cup were won by teams with 46 points each

The 2 Guys who got the 52 Points at our place on Saturday were both off 18, 12 Pars, 2 Birdies and 4 Bogey's. 16 Under, Gross 71, Nett 53.

Played a charity betterball off of 3/4 last summer and we had 48 points..... We were 6 under gross through 6 holes! birdie, birdie, birdie, eagle, par, birdie then the wheels fell off!

did win 2 rounds and accommodation at GlenEagles for our troubles.

Our 4BBB a week ago was won with 47 points by two chaps both off 5 handicap. It was 90% so they both got an extra shot on the Index 5, but still pretty impressive.

Rich and I won the Cooden Centenary betterball with 46 points in 2012. But that was off full handicap and the yellow tees.
I honestly thought we would be nowhere near, expecting 49 or 50 to have won it.
