After cutting my finger to bits on Sunday, I went out yesterday to try it out on the course.
I couldn't use my normal interlock grip so used the overlap instead.
After a few holes and a few adjustments to the swing, I was pleasantly surprised.
I even got close on the 158 yd par 3 13th.
You know when you think, oh thats close but turns out to be 10 ft away, well this was close :)

Fortunately, Teegirl missed her chip in to win the hole

Has anyone else been close recently?

Yesterday I had a few chips that ran really close to the hole but just drifted a couple of feet past.
But my highlight was after a sliced drive and a tree-diverted 2nd left me 109 yards to the middle. Out came the wedge and it looked inches away from back there. Actually it was about 5 feet but it rolled in for the par. Always nice to "up'n'down" from just over 100 yards out. Not been that close on a par 3 for ages. 4 or 5 feet seems to be my limit.

Different sort of 'almost' but drove the green yesterday on our par 4 7th which has a slight dogleg and, therefore, blind green. Delighted on approaching to see where finished and then a par! 4 & 3 is a horrible score!

Is the overlap here to stay then?

It would be a big move to change after 40 years of interlocking but... never say never :)
I might pop out this afternoon and give it another try

A good sneeze would have seen that one drop!

Maybe I should have used my mind to think it in the hole ;)

Did you make the putt? :D :D :D :D :D

Nearly holed a 5-wood for an albatross. Second shot on the par5, 8th. Pitchmark was 3inches from the hole, spun back to 6 feet and made the putt for eagle.

LOL.. The other day I was 4 over after 6 then made par, eagle par, back to 2 over for the front 9.

Yesterday I was 5 over after 6, birdied 7,8,11,12 to get back to 1 over

I come out with you and it's 10 over on the front and 12 over on the back!!!!

Is it me or you? :D

Cracking shot bob, very unlucky. being that close, you never know if it actually hit the pin and bounced back a bit???

closest i've been to an ace is about 10" away. Even from that short distance, it's funny how the hole seems to shrink as you line up for the birdie putt!

was nearly close almost on saturday night but too drunk :o
although when i was younger birdied the first, second hole par 3 tee shot lipped out to an inch away birdie then par the rest 2 under. was playing myself and pals wouldnt believe me. what a round

Nice photoshop....I mean shot Bob.......have you ever thought about taking the game up as a living?? :p

Par 4 8th @ Castle Coombe last week, went for the green off the tee, pitched on the front edge and was heading for the pin. Actually collided with a guys errant ball who was playing the 12th which runs in the opposite direction.

Managed to roll in the 12ft eagle putt though. ;)

I had one stop half a roll from the centre of the cup last summer, 3 wood into a slight head wind at a 200yard par 3. So very close...

...I have aced once though. Im sure it'll never be repeated

Tried the overlap myself the last 2 rounds Bob...Like yourself i had finger problems also (Chilblains) The bain of my life...I was hitting my driver and woods well with it but i just couldnt make the irons work....
Went out yesterday and went back to the interlock and im hitting them much better now....
Id still love to be able to use an overlap though....I just think that my hands on the irons with this grip were just very over active spraying balls everywhere.

How come you only hit shots like this when you are out on the course on your own?

Funny you say that! I played on my own yesterday and I had 10 birdies, 2 eagles and an albatross.

Whilst I was walking down the 11th Kiera Knightly jumped out of the woods and asked me for a bit of slap and tickle.....

And a little leprechan appeared from the bank of the bunker down the 15th and gave me tonights winning lottery numbers.....
