I don't know which member of the greenstaff cut this morning's holes, but I can only imagine that they had a flaming row with the wife before leaving for work.

One par three had the hole halfway up a slope which broke two ways.
Two of our group scraped a 5, and one took a 9, of which 6 were putts!

A couple of other pins were slightly suspect too!

Sounds like every putt on the 3rd on the Dukes

Our 4th in the medal the other week was similar on the side of a big slope. Lots of three putting and worse. I just canned the 15 foot downhiller for par. Actually the hole just got in the way and prevented it going off the green

Very similar on my home course, Carnoustie Buddon. Always seem to place holes in silly places during the winter, supposedly to preserve the greens, then put them in more sensible places when the medals start, as they did this weekend.

Some courses just don't like to follow the guidance of the R&A I suppose.

Phew!!

For a minute there I thought you were going to mention the 3rd today when I went from thinking I had holed my putt for a two to being happy ending up with a 5 :o

That was a bloody stupid pin position

Definitely wasn't the recommended three paces from a severe slope.

6 putts !!!!! - what was he using, a driver?

I found out on Saturday at my new club that the 3 full-time greens staff are all single figure golfers of which 2 of them are Cat 1. I think its good to have golfers as green staff as they will look at what their doing with a different eye and thought process, whereas just a horticultural greens staff will just move things about and implement decisions with no real thought or knowledge of what the consequences are to the 'golfer'.

Tee blocks at my old club were sometimes an issue, they could be right next to a tree at one end meaning you had to all tee off from the middle or far right with no opportunity of using the left, unless you were left handed!
