Age for seniors

That's Bromley for you then ;)
Actually, I just looked again. It's £140 now. For a round of golf! I've played both courses in the past. They're nice, but not worth that much. Not sure how these courses that charge that sort of rate justify it. Years ago, we looked to join there as it was local and we knew a few members. So we turned up one Sunday and straight away I saw my MD at the time in the bar. "Where you parked?" he asked. When I told him, he drew a breath and said "oooh, you shouldn't really park there on a Sunday, and to be honest your wife shouldn't be in the bar". When he then chucked in that the joining fee (this is nearly 30 years ago) was £1,500 and there was a two year wait for full membership, we quickly decided it wasn't for us.

Then can’t see any issue
My playing partner is 64. For the last four years he's been able to pay the seniors rate as, in line with a lot of clubs, the starting point was 60. Now, for the next three, he'll have to pay the regular rate, as will anyone wanting to play the course who was 60+, but isn't yet 67. You may feel it's no biggie, but they set the rates up that way and have now made a fairly drastic adjustment by bumping up the qualifying age by 7 years.

Again - no issue , up to the club what fees they set

We used to play Sunningdale for £220 , it’s now over £500

It is what it is

Let me get this right there is a seniors rate for green fee's at this club. That is something I have never come across after paying green fee's at over 300 clubs. Very few clubs round here still offer cheaper membership fee's either.

When it comes to fees we do not have a seniors rate.
For comps matches etc ours is 55.
We have to be careful when entering some comps at other nearby clubs as they have seniors at age 60.

Yes, there are seniors rates at several clubs near me. I used to be a member of a club, but prefer the freedom of choosing where to play, when it suits.

I've never come across this, but Google threw up several courses in Kent that do.

I guess the club in the OP were getting a financially unsustainable number of folk claiming the concessionary rate. 😉

I agree, and I'm a senior. But then again.....why do NHS, police, firefighters etc etc get discounts at so many places?
Because they work so much harder than the rest of us apparently.
My mate & my Mrs both work for the NHS,,they’ve not got it bad when it comes to pay, holidays & pension imo.

I know the club he’s a “member of”. It’s essentially a nominal fee membership to allow them access to enter club comps etc , Maintain handicap and reduced green fees. It’s not the club that is financially unsustainable as such. It’s owned by a leisure company that owns several golf clubs, leisure centres and similar leisure facilities. They’ve not been financially sound since Covid due to mismanagement.

What they’ve done now is essentially standardised the green fees across the board as imo they should regardless of age. Feel like this post hasn’t gone the way the OP wanted, especially now the truth and facts are in the open of it.

It’s quite simply a case of someone that was getting a reduce rate having it removed so that special treatment isn’t given and they don’t like it. Frankly that’s tough !!

This is a classic example of posting something for “likes” imo.

It’s just the way of social media now.

No offence Arthur 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I know me and old Arthur don’t agree on much, well pretty much anything but…..

I actually agree with him on this one some people are that bit more special. The nurses and carers that looked after my dad in the weeks up to his passing making my mums and families lives easier. The ones who cared for my daughter whilst she was having several operations etc. Those people who do that for not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things and take home those emotions whilst caring for those they don’t know are a hell of a lot more special than the likes of me and deserve every little discount they get.

Not Coppers though they don’t deserve anything! Don’t get me started on parking wardens 🤣

Perhaps a gratitude for what they do?
I have no problem with that
What about all the "other" people who do good work and work under stress? I can't imagine the crap that somebody at the tills at places to Asda have to put up with. Why are some people singled out for extra benefits? If some age group at the golf clubs get a "benefit".....like with seniors at some clubs.....that's unfair!!!!

Oh I agree, the ones you mention are doing a fantastic job.
And they are paid a decent wage, get more annual leave than most, get paid when off sick & get a decent pension.

All I’m saying is NHS workers aren’t half as hard done by as they & the media like to make out.

Just my opinion of course 👍🏻
