I would bet they offered less than £100.00. When I was trying other irons I asked in Nevada Bobs how much they would offer for a set of graphite shafted Taylormade Burner plus irons less than 6 months old, the reply, a max of £150. Strangely they had on the shelf a second hand set of Taylormade Burner XD irons, steel shafted older model, and they were selling them for £349.00. In other words they were looking for a £200 mark up and profit on top of what they would have made had they sold me another set.

I know what you mean mate, my Di7's with graphite shafts are less than 12 months old. and I know that they are worth treble what they offered me.

will any retail outlet offer you what you feel they are worth?
I have been in non-franchise golfing outlets and overheard derisory offers on trade ins.

Then sell them on here or ebay and take the money to buy the new set.....

The trouble is they take their prices from golfbidder which are notoriously shabby at offering anything near a sensible price. They qote the price given by golfbidder but in my experience there is normally a £40-50 window to negotiate in over and above the asking price. I'd ask to deal with the manager and if you use that branch regularly and have an AG members card get him to check how much you've spent and explain loyalty is a two way street

In my case I had a quote of £250 from Golfbidder so went in armed with the info. Even then expected to be able to negotiate on that based on their selling an older, lower spec model for £350.00

Why should you expect AG or any other retailer/pro to offer you the amounts that you do?

Your gear is secondhand and by taking it in at all they are doing you a favour and tie-ing up their money in goods that they may or may not sell. Your trade-ins are really only of interest to quite a limited audience and are not easy to sell. You all seem to believe that they can cover this up due to the "huge" margins that they have when selling new..trust me other than in a very limited number of cases in golf equipment there are no huge margins.

To the person who said that he was made a derisory offer and his clubs were worth two or three times that why the moans? Just sell them to your alternate purchaser!

Any goods are only "worth" what a willing buyer will pay for them at that time.

Yes I am biased. I spend a lot of time at an AG Outlet attached to my local driving range my son works there and all the people that work there are good friends. Without exception they provide a good level of service.

The staff at AG are constrained by their companies policies, e.g the use of Golf Bidder(or similar)for valuations, the same as you are at work and you would do well to remember that.

I wasn't arguing the point about derisory offers as I too have spent a lot of time in AG outlets and was on the verge of working for them so I have a fair idea of things like mark up's, commission targets etc.

To be honest, if the make and model is within 12-18 months old their mark-up vs price paid is pretty good in percentage terms but I agree that anything older and they do take a chance on it not shifting hence the minimalist offers. I'm not sure about doing the customer a favour as its very much the same as a car dealer taking a car in P/X. They have a pretty shrewd idea upfront if they can shift it or not and what they can get for it. At the end of the day and certainly from my experiences with the manager at my nearest AG they tend to end up flogging it on golfbidder if it doesn't sell anyway.

that's why you are biased, you only see one point of view

As I explained, I have seen it from within as well as from the position as a customer. Had AG come up with a slightly more realistic basic and not been so intransigent on sales targets and commission numbers I may well have been poacher turned gamekeeper. If your kit is a decent brand and 12-18 months old and you insist on dealing with the manager there is room to negotiate. If it is a lesser brand and older the golfbidder price is a more realistic number and they won't budge except for £10-20 tops

Homer, Nick Wallace thinks just because his son works there he knows how AG works
well I know different, AG has been discussed on here many times.

I don't want to get into any sort of debate about who knows how AG works best. I've given you my view having spent a considerable amount of time within the AG camp and having an understanding on how its set up and I'm happy to leave it there.
