I have just put a new Pershing shaft in my Mizzy mp600 and changed the club beyond all recognition, added more yards and got a better flight and roll. Does anyone else think it's a great idea to change the shaft instead of the manufacturers?

NO.....you got lucky.

Maybe if you already know something works for you, I guess.

Did you already know, or take a gamble?

I did a fair amount of research and checked out other forums such as Golf wrx, they seem to know their stuff on shafts. In the end I knew I was probably making the right decision but was prepared to fail. I suppose there will always be an element of luck as one mans meat etc and every shaft will react differently for every golfer.

Honest reply drawboy.

I nearly had my G5 re-shafted and was all set to buy exactly the same shaft from exactly the same company (Gamola).

In the end, I didn't want to take the risk, so toddled off to AG to try some clubs out. In the end, a new driver at £99 was about the best result for me. I lost £70 on the G5, but it had seen about 30-40 games, so not too bad.

Did that with my 907 D1, cost £90. Kind of worth it, but original cost £200, plus another £90. Now got c/f'ed for 909, comes with correct shaft and loft £250. Next time, c/f again, it is cheaper in the long term.

I paid £35.00 for the shaft and £26.00 fitted with new lamkin cord grip,60 quid for the improvement made is IMO a bargain, better than letting a pro or golf shop give me peanuts for a mint club then pay another £100+ to get a different driver.

Some of these shafts are more expensive when purchased separately compared to buying a new club with that shaft in it.

Yes. I was half thinking about putting proforce V2s in my 2 and 5 wood. Trouble is, 1 shaft is more than the whole Wilson club new.

Changing shafts can be a great idea. I am also looking at these perishing shafts for my 3+5 woods. Looking for a slightly higher ball flight than I currently get from the re-ax 70.

Gamola are a decent company.

If you are fitted properly for a shaft, may be worth doing. If you get one just 'cos all the cool kids have one, likely to end in tears.

If you are prepared to spend the money, somewhere like Precision Golf in Egham will be able to really tighten up your set of clubs and identify and fix equipment that is unsuitable.

They will also look after you if you want some adjustments made after you get used to the clubs.
