We're planning on comming up to Scotland for 3 or 4 nights and one of the lads has suggested the itinary below so what do you think or is there something better you'd suggest (prices are about what we want to pay)?

  • Staying at the Golf Hotel Crail 3 nights Dinner Bed and Breakfast £50.00 per person per night
  • Sunday at Balcomie Links (Crail old course) £60.00
  • Monday at Lundin Links £58.00
  • Tuesday at Levin Links £55.00
  • Wednesday at either Scotscraig £56.00 or Ladybank £54.00

Hello Gogg, not one of the Scottish, but I have played two of them.

Lundin links, I played for £25 in the winter, and I would not have been happy paying top whack, and was disappointed for a course in the top 100. It has 5-6 good holes and good views, but not fantastic.

Not sure on Leven links which is right next door, as haven't played it.

Ladybank had been built up by mates who had played it before me and although I liked it, maybe built up too much. I would play Downfield before ladybank (but check the weather, as some rate it as a bog, when wet). I played Downfield in June and it was brilliant. Downfield is in Dundee so not that far away.

That coast is lovely though lovely little fishing villages like Anstruther, St. Monans, Crail etc.

BTW a customer recommended looking at the Green man pub (I think) near Stirling for a golf deal as they has some unlimited golf and £25 per night ale vouchers for a weekend deal.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Downfield before any of the tracks you have listed. Good choices.

When are you planning on coming up? I would play Scotscraig before Lundin and Ladybank, wouldn't touch Downfield have played it alot over the years as my mate is a memeber and is only good for about 4-6 weeks.

If you fancy playing Scotscraig i could get it cheaper than £56 for you, how manys making the trip.

Another non-Scot that has played several - Leven, Lundin and Ladybank.

All recommendable. Ladybank is not a links though - in case you didn't realise.

Lundin would be my pick of those if it wasn't for (all but 1 of) the few 'parklandy' holes added when it and Leven were split. Some think they are the best holes though! Leven is classic old links - and a wonderfully tough finishing hole too.

Not a Scot but have played Ladybank, and thought it a good course, and similar to a lot of heathland courses in the Surrey area. We played it rather than Lundin Links as it was a tad breezy on the day, and the course is a lot more sheltered. Golfcitydweller (Euan) who lives in St Andrews recommended Lundin Links , Crail, and the Jubilee course at St Andrews to us. (Assuming you can not get on the Old Course) I loved the New Course at St Andrews as well.

What a great area to play golf.

Ladybank is a quality test of golf though a bit flat and not that inspiring views etc. Lundin is superb with lots of shot options for your average golfer, and can only think the first reply was someone having an off day. Leven is trad links very similar to Lundin and needs good bump and run approach. Not played Scotscarig but heard nowt but good things about it. That'll be a great trip. Hope your weather is fine. On your way back home I'd recommend Pitreavie in Dunfermline which is a great course too if a bit hilly but it plays the contours very well.

Play a four ball at this former Local Final Qualifying Venue between 13.30 and 15.30 on a Monday (excluding bank holidays), Tuesday or Wednesday for only £140 : Price includes a 2-course meal.
