Advice needed

re joining a club - my advice would be find somewhere which has a programme for beginners.

Our place has a great scheme. 6 weekly free group lessons for beginners, then an academy which cost £350 for the first year, this had 12 1-2-1 lessons with the pro, about the same number of group lessons, and unlimited access to the course 5 and a half days a week. if you decided to take out full membership at the end of the year, you got £200 off your first year's fees.

It worked out really well for me, the lessons were invaluable, as was the unlimited playing time, and I met a good bunch of lads who were in the same boat as me, and who I play with regularly now.

have a look on here for somewhere local to you

Agree- an academy is a great way of being introduced to a golf club and getting going with the game through lessons and occasional knocks on the course...you might only be able to stay an academy member for 2 or 3 years before being asked to join the club - but by then you'll know how you feel about the game and the golf club.

From youtube most people have a vice to hold the club in place. Guess it is pretty tricky without? Let me know how you get on with re-gripping

Never one to rush things!

I finally got round to putting the new grips on tonight, much easier than I anticipated and was done in around an hour to an hour and a half, it would be even quicker now I know what it's all about.

I should have replaced the shafts too as the ones on these old Ben Sayers "Ray Floyd" Power Ridged blades were very rusty, which is why I didn't do the straight away, in the end I thought "so what, the grips cost next to nothing so I've nothing to lose".

Is putting new grips on vintage clubs not against the spirit of the whole vintage thing?

Clubs were re-gripped even back in the day. :D

If the grips are remotely usable then I leave them, these were not only unplayable but some had been replaced over the years and they were a bit of a mishmash.

Unfortunately it's not easy to come by vintage grips, ones that look vintage can be found but they're too pricey for me so it has to be cheap new ones.
