Adjustable drivers - do they work?

I should probably add that in his article, it is specifically loft adjustment he has an issue with.

I've not read it yet (going to in a minute) but I agree with him - but probably for different reasons. I've not had a go with one adjustable driver that you can change the loft of without it looking to me like the face angle has been adjusted as well.

I guess the lump on the bottom of the R1 is as good as it's going to get (hoverer's aside), but until someone makes a driver where the face isn't attached to the rest of the head (ie. never), it doesn't work for me.

Hmm you have a SLDR already... buy it, win it... how is it?

Bought it, just on the basis of half a dozen hits in a net. It felt that good.

It's VERY good, especially into the wind. Does what it says on the tin about lowering spin. Altering the loft however, still changes the face angle, as did the 910D2 I had before it. Not bothered about altering the loft though, but I knocked it down a notch just to have the face open a little.

Doesn't sound quite as good as the Titleist imo, but much better than the R11/R1.

If you get a chance to try one, do it, but not with range balls.

Gets me with adjustable drivers that its frowned upon for some one to buy one to correct a swing fault, but if you pay some one (a Pro) to adjust it to fix faults then its a custom fit & it's acceptable

3 words from me... Cobra Amp Cell

Don't need to say anymore! Truly worth the money!

I also hit the nike covert and that too is an amazing piece of equipment!

No they do now work that is why all the major golf companies spent million on developing them and mass producing them, but they do not work.. What a stupid question

I had the Nike VR str8 fit pro and loved it until I split the weld between the face and the body of the club head.
Nike were good enough to give me a £100 credit and I bought the Titleist 910D2 which is a fantastic club. I do adjust it from time to time but not often as I'#m hitting it really well with the settings I have.

Is it? If you read the responses I think you'll find it's a very valid question. Care to give us your view on why they do work?

very simply answer to this question. They do work each club would be tested with a machine so there would be exactly the same swing and each shoot would have been measured. Them data would have been collected and measured. If they did not pass these tested the club would not be allowed to be sold under the trade discription act. So yes they do work. Maybe not if the person using it if you have an inconsistent swing buy the club does as it stated.

All drivers work in the right hands. The adjustable ones are no different and no better. The adjustability is just a marketing angle that the companies have employed very successfully.

So they work because the manufacturers tell us they do? The marketing is clearly getting through to some :D

Well I've just been down the pro shop and bought the vrs.

Like I said it looked too good of a deal to turn down. I got it fitted with the oban devotion 6 stiff shaft for £100 total price and I'll be giving it a hit on the course tonight and play about with the settings on Friday at the range as its going to be torrential rain then.

If its working well I'll see how much I can get for my ping on ebay.

Just out of interest, did the fitting not recommend the best setting for you?

Seems like a good buy - if it works. Especially if both shafts were part of the deal.

Just remember to sort the flight out with the adjustment, then put the tool somewhere that will discourage fiddling!

I was often wondering this very thing if you go and get fitted for a driver and go through all the rigmaroll of the fitting why then would you want or need to adjust it at our level of golfing ability ? (genuine question by the way)

I have the RBZ stage 2 its set at 9.5* neutral and it stays at that .. (for the record its a cannon of a club 50gram stiff shaft ) i adjust my ball flight by teeing it a bit higher or lower etc

No not really, but to be fair its not so much a pro shop, more just a shop (club doesn't have a pro as yet). Its just a young lad that mainly sells his stock online but keeps some of the items to sell in the shop to members for a better deal. There's no range or flightscope things like in AG.

I had the option of the stock fubuki shaft or for £40 extra I could have either a grafalloy (cant remember which one) stiff 60g, or oban devotion stiff 65g. Wanting a lower trajectory I put the 40 quid in and went for the oban.

If it doesn't work well I should be able to get my (or at least most or it) money back and if it does - sell the ping.

The Oban is an excellent shaft and is a £100 upgrade from Titleist! I think you got a good deal.

Exactly my thoughts. My driver is set as I was fitted for it and I wouldn't think of changing it without the help of a fitter and a launch monitor

I have a 910 D2 set in B2 setting (Standard loft, face closed a fraction more)

My pro set it up for me in a lesson and I haven't touched it since.

I had it set in B2 as I have a tendacy to push the ball with the drive. Having the face closed fractionally does help believe it or not.

I can still hit some stinking drives, but that's just down to me.
