ACE

I have tried but can no longer resist replying to this thread :o But, without wishing to sound boastful, as my forum name suggests, I have had 13 aces( been playing golf for 50 years!!) BUT only 3 of these are in actual competition. I regret not having my playing partners verify my "non competitive" ones (only one of these was a solo effort)- as I get older the number sounds unbelievable even to me and I'm beginning to doubt my counting!!! I can clearly recall the 3 competitive aces and just 2 others.

On 26/7/12 I recorded my first ever hole in one. This was at Matlock golf club,Derbyshire. 181 yard par 3.
Brilliant experience! First one in 25 years golfing. I was playing in a match against the club representative team with a formal meal afterwards. Cost £150 but was able to claim it all back off the insurance, including the taxi fare home.
I had been trying to encourage my son, Alex to get more involved in golf.
He had been coming to the driving range with me and my local PGA Head Professional, Kevin Lock, had been great with him, giving him guidance and support. I had taught him about course etiquette and he was using my old clubs with increasing confidence every week.
He took part in a society competition last week for his first attempt at completing 18 holes on a “proper” golf course. He did well, clearly enjoying the experience.
On 1st august 2012 (4 days after my first HIO) he played his second 18 hole round ever at my home club, Horsley Lodge G.C in Derbyshire.
He played really well coping with everything the course threw at him. We reached the 12th hole known as Dawson’s Meadow.
This is a fantastic par 3 designed by Peter McEvoy. Elevated green with lots of humps and hollows. Well protected by 2 lakes and a number of strategically placed bunkers.
3 decent shots by the adult members of the group allowed Alex to make his way forward to his junior tee box. 109 yards to reach the green. He hit a cracker, over the water hazards and bunkers. It pitched a yard from the pin, bounced once and flicked into the flag stick. Straight up and straight down. The shout went up. ” It’s in!!”
Dumbstruck, I ran towards the green and low and behold when Alex reached us he peered into the cup and there was his ball nestling at the bottom. This is crazy……………It took me 25 years to record my first hole in one and he had done it on only the second round of his life!! This was a brilliant week that i will never forget.

Doesn't get any better than that!!! That's the reason we all love this great game

Hope to never get one, but I've often found it odd that you do the hard bit and everyone else benefits with a free drink. Surely it should be the other way around?

Never! Lots of tap in twos from a couple of inches but never yet had the luck to see the first one go in.

Have holed my approach shot on par 4s a few times and that's good but it's just not the same, is it?!

After reading the great comments on here, just wondered what the walk to the hole was like? Victory walk or slightly nervous one just in case your eyes were deceiving you?
