acceptable score for your H/C

Buffer zone I'll take everytime otherwise I don't consider I've scored well. Scored well is different to playing well and we've all had rounds where we've hit the ball great and can't amke a decent total

Same as Homer - the buffer. That is assuming that the weather is not making the course play much harder

Chris

Whatever your handicap category is you get that many shots buffer.

ie, cat 1 = 1 shot buffer, cat 2 = 2 shot buffer, etc etc

Yep, I am cat 3 and I guess I am happy if I am within that.

Are we talking medal, or casual knock?

Given that a casual knock is not off the blocks, and the pins aren't tucked away in silly places, SS is probably anything up to 3 shots lower than in a comp, so to play to your h/cap you need to be under it. As a result, I'm happy if I'm under my h/cap or at worst level with it. Anything over is rubbish golf.

In a comp, I'd accept buffer as ok, as the course is set up harder.

What do you consider is an accecptable score for your H/C on your home course when you play.I play off 10 and happy if I shot no more than 5 over that

Medal - Two shots either side
Stableford - 36-40points

Always feel that I should never go lower than my handicap on Stableford

so what is the basic make up of handicaps?

normal weekly stableford comp.

you get cut if you are ? / you get 0.1 back if you are?

stroke play what way does it work?

cat 1-2-3 where does these three cat begin and end?

answers for a newbie please :)

to stay on topic - im currently happy with two over my handicap on 18holes

Phil

Handicap is ok, but I am maybe a little harsh on myself and say that I must be under my handicap as I don't see myself as a 9 handichopper (possibly dillusional, used to be off 6 til we had 3 children) and want to get back down to mid single digits.

You get cut 0.1,0.2,0.3 or 0.4, depending on the category in which you lie, per shot under Competition Standard Scratch during a competition round.

Handicap categories are, I think:

Cat 1 = 0 to 5
Cat 2 = 6 to 12
Cat 3 = 13 to 20
Cat 4 = 20 to 28.

As I feel that my game is improving, I am generally only happy if i have shot under it in a comp. Friendly games are a bit different as I tend to go for some mad shots that I would not attempt in a comp. Certainly at the moment with soft greens and a shorter course, shooting to my handicap is the bare minimum that I expect.

At my own course in half decent conditions I'd go with anything buffer or less.

At away courses set up for a scratch open - anything that is in single figures over par most of the time. :( :o

I think it all depends... my old course was a bit of an easy course that if you played ok you would score well... but since joining my new club id accept anything over 32 s/ford points as a good round or +5 over in a medal..

This would seem reasonable to me
