A word of warning...........................................

And a few 1 points. Don't worry im going to see the handicap secretary tomorrow to try and haggle a handicap cut.

Thanks again for signing my card for me and another really enjoyable round.

Oh yes, you forgot to mention my drive on the 16th. Not bad for a 16 handicapper.

Smiffy is right but fortunately HTL was on my side and we managed to retain our unbeaten record. On a glorious day HTL, Smiffy and his mate Norm came to Ascot and we had a match (me and HTL v Smiffy and Norm) and an individual stableford.

We could tell it was going to be a long afternoon with Hywel (HTL) when he hit the first (229 off the whites) with his 4 iron. He did manage to blob the 2nd carving his tee shot towards Windsor and Smiffy took the hole with a rock steady par. He was at it again at the 4th though with a 4 iron and a wedge to the green and then holes a monster putt to give us a 1 up lead. I parred the 6th to take the hole but Norm won the next with a bogey after HTL 4 putted having found the green.

Coming to the 7th, Smiffy hit what looked a decent approach only to see it fly out the back and I followed suit. We then had a 40 yard walk to where HTL's drive had finished. Smiffy hit an ok chip down hill left to right but I was able to learn from it and chipped stone dead to put the match back to 2 up. Smiffy and Norm made par to reduce the gap and my short game saved me at the 9th to get a half. One up at the turn and everyone played consistantly. I was out in 17 points with Smiffy, Norm had 15 but HTL took the honours with 18.

Norm, SMiffy and HTL all made par at 10 and I managed to win the 11th with a birdie two. Smiffy had a problem at the next but poor Norm made a great par only to lose the hole as I made a 4 nett 3 to put us 3 up in the match. It was effectively all over at the next when HTL sank another outrageous putt for par and hands were shaken at the 14th when bith HTL and made par for a 5&4 win. Poor Norm had played the first four holes of the back nine in one over gross and had lost three holes in the match.

As a final act, HTL carved his first drive at 16 into wild country and reloaded to play 3 off the tee. 309 yards later (yes we did verify it on SC) he hit his wedge and still rescued a point. I had one final flourish myself and made a birdie 4 at the last.

In the end the match was very one seided but didn't do Smiffy and Norm justice who both played well but had the fight kicked out of them in a three hole blitz. Unsurprisingly HTL won the money for the stableford with 40 points off 16 including two blobbed holes. Norm fell away a little towards the end to finish with 31, SMiffy had 30 and I managed to play to my handicap with 36 (and I had 3 blobbed holes).

As usual Smiffy and Norm were great company and took their thrashing in great spirits. Having played them at Leatherhead and Ascot we are now going to take them on in their own backyard so they have a great chance of ending our winning streak. Ascot has a members/guest day and I'm hoping HTL is free as on this form we could have a great chance!!!!!

Drive one....blasted miles into the trees on the right.
Provisional...blasted 309 yards straight down the middle on the hole where MikeH won longest drive in April with 258 yards, sand wedge on and hit a glorious putt that only just missed for a 5 for 2.
Sorry Hywel. I nearly forgot about that

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Cant wait to come down to your gaff Smiffy. Hopefully you will have your G15 by then.

Also hope to be off a lower handicap!

All joking aside, it was a great game but we were stumped by what happened from 10 onwards. One down at the turn, I par 10 for a half and we are in with a shout. But then we just couldn't answer back with your combination of birdies and pars on holes where shots were being given. You played really well today Homer, despite a couple of bad holes you kept your game together really well.
Only joking about Hywel, but he has a great future ahead of him in the game. I said when I first saw him hit a ball he had the capablity to get down to single figures fairly quickly, and I stand by that statement. I reckon a 6 or 7 handicap is well within his graps within the next year or so if he keeps going the way he is.
At Leatherhead on Thursday I was about 170 out from the centre of a green and hit (badly) a 5 iron. Hywel was 20 yards BEHIND me and had played first and put his ball on the green. After I had played my shot I asked him what iron he had hit and he replied "a 7"...that's a 7 iron 190 yards. Jeez Louise.
Keep going Hywel. But remind me to keep my money in my pocket the next time we meet!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Valiant attempt Smiffy but after HTL's performance at Leatherhead the other day, coupled with Homer legendary coming in when needed, I thought you might be up against it today - even with Norm's help :).

I suppose that the new "dream team" of JustOneUK and Leftie might have to take on Homer and HTL and show them how matchplay golf should be played. Not sure that we could put an end to HTL's Stapleford points run though.

Well played Hywel. 40 points with blobs is very well played indeed! ... and 309yds is excellent with a reloaded drive... was it PURE anger? ;)

Seems like Homer did some damage in the matchplay, winning at least 3 holes.

Smiffy's gonna be a right grump for a while.... nothing new there! :D

Yep, no mistaking it - We ARE the dream team :D

I'm guessing we'll have a chance to prove it on Wednesday at Highwoods...... bring it on!!! :p
