A tiny Step Forward - Chris Tappin

Thanks for the update , I was wondering if there had been any news. At least it is a positive step forward.

Thats great news.

Funny though how quick we were to stick him on a plane to the States so quickly with little publicity yet we don't do the same with Quatada, to Jordan, and just say to the ECHR that if they decide it was the wrong thing to do we will ask for him to be sent back to us.

Yes, a bit of good news and indeed a positive step in the right direction to hopefully the eventual release of Chris Tappin.

Sorry but just because he was a member of a golf club as reported by the Daily Mail, then that immediately makes him innocent in everyone's eyes here?

Enough of this "let's find an excuse not to extradite one of our own" that the Mail loves to take up.

If a foreign national is accused of a crime against a Brit, then everyone immediately springs up to scream for justice.

I think the majority on this site are showing their support for the father of Neil Tappin, the Deputy Editor of Golf Monthly. I will assume you were unaware of this fact, otherwise I find your remarks incredibly insensitive.

You might want to rethink this post! Totally ignorant and insensitive

Tappers was in good form yesterday at Birkdale and some nice words of support were put his way by many present and you could see he appreciated them.

Hope good news is just around the corner.

Just saw Neil on our local BBC news - he came across very well and it seems that his dad has had a pretty tough time in solitary in the States. I am personally pleased that Neil says that he believes his father will contest the case and not do a plea bargain.

I wish the family well

Hmm.

The fact he's a member of a golf club and is nothing to do with it.

Some of us have been following this story for a LONG time. Guilty until proven innocent. EXCEPT the Americans don't do this sort of thinking.....hence the whole debacle.

As one who a) signed online petitions, b) raised this extradition agreement with my local MP c) have rallied support across colleagues and friends, I find your post a little hasty.

Sorry my friend but I think you'll find those words upset a lot of people on here. Many of us know Neil personally and plenty more know of him via GM and there is a big wave of support for the insensitive way his father is being treated. Extradited without a chance to examine the evidence and no recourse to the Court of Human Rights like terror suspects. The golf thing is a line the Daily Mail use to pander to their middle class readership.

I hope your post was in error and not some troll like attempt to start a flame war. You'll not win

I think if you deal in weapons [or their component parts] you must be aware of the industries risks.
Not too much sympathy from me. I am sure that the American courts will sort it out, as the British ones would do if the circumstances were switched.

I'm sorry but I do not like the tone of this thread.

It has nothing to do with that... Or if he's guilty or not for that matter, he's been extradicted when theres been no trial, and until now he wasn't granted bail because he was deemed a "flight risk" which is ridiculous, the British justice system has allowed a 65 year old man who has not been proved guilty be put into the American prison system which is notoriously brutal, everything about it stinks, it appears the Americans don't do innocent until proven guilty... thats why so many people are unhappy, also many people on here know Neil Tappin, the deputy editor of GM, so I very much hope you weren't aware of that because to come on their forum and post what you just did is extremely insensitive and nasty...
