Thank you all. I took a bit of a kicking on the Ping's newest fan thread with DCB rounding it off with a meaty Doc Marten to the temple. Get out and play, leave the blob wedge alone, I'd have expected inroads to that 28 handicap by now.

I listened to you all and felt that actually it was about time I stopped fretting and delivered. With my first medal looming I had a solid practice session on Friday and set out today with your words ringing in my ears. I didn't bothered with the demo lob wedge and used my current set up. It didn't start well but I kept at it. Long story on the blog later, short story I scored 6 pars, 3 bogeys and 3 double bogeys and had two blobs which I'd later regret.

I returned an 82 for 16 holes and if I had been able to complete those other two holes I'm sure Id have broken the century mark. That said I'm very happy. I'll be putting up a detailed blog post later but just wanted to nip on here and say thank you for clearing my head, getting me to focus and hit the bloody thing.

The three occasions I would have considered using a Lob Wedge I used my Sand Wedge and played solid shots almost holing one for my first ever birdie.

So thank you, thank you, thank you and please keep slapping me when I over complicate stuff (just make sure you include plenty of smileys)!

:D :D :D

Well done Tiger.

There's a lot to be said for just getting on with it.
82 for 16 holes is decent form - were the other 2 that bad?

On the 2nd my age old problem of closing the face returned so I hit 2 in the gorse. We thought we saw the second land but couldn't find it so that couldn't count. On the 12th I hit my tee shot onto an adjoining fairway and though I flushed my second shot and thought I knew where it had gone it had vanished and my playing partner hadn't seen it come down. In order not to hold up play behind us we carried on. Frustrating but not the end of the world

Well played Tiger. I'm confident you'll break the Ton soon enough, and reckon you'll get down to near 90 pretty quickly from there as well. Once you understand what your trying to do with the shots, you'll be half way there to getting down to 18!

Sounds like you probably would have broken 100 if you'd taken the penalty and carried one. Well done x

Tiger, I just looked at your blog for the very first time...

I looked at your swing a few times...

two points...

• You have a pretty nice looking swing (mind you, i'm no expert!) - stop worring about the swing and just learn to get the ball in the hole. It's about the score now, not the swing

• You actually look quite like Tiger!

On point number 1, i know that you've already started doing this. Just playing the game... otherwise you wouldn't have scored 82 from 16 holes. Keep it up and next time you start getting technical or over stressed about your clubs, give yourself a slap to save us from having to!

You'll come good - it takes time, that's all - oh, and a flippant attitude :)

My fault. When reflecting on my performance I see a double bogey or better as a respectable score for a hole. So in my mind the more holes in that scoring range the better. Today I also had 4 triple bogeys that I didn't refer to in my original post. Apologies for the confusion. T

No problem. All I wanted to say was well done on the pars and bogeys, but I was genuinely confused. Keep at it....it'll come. If you can make 6 pars and all the rest bogeys, you can join me on 12.

Well done. It's only by playing more and more that you'll face different situations on course and work out strategies to cope. Sometimes a penalty drop is a better option as is the chip out sideways. Keep the practice going if you can't get to the course but as your a member I'd be out as often as light and family time permits between now and the end of the season. Five holes of focussing and trying on every shot can be better than a bucket of balls.

Thanks guys. I think having a trolley had certainly helped my concentration and stamina levels. But the biggest difference is definitely a focus on just getting the ball in the hole and being more careful in my set up. Hope I do you all proud next week.
