Just wanted to praise my teaching pro and recommend that anyone in the north east Essex/ Suffolk area that are looking to improve their game should seriously consider having lessons with her. Those who have been on here long enough will know of my struggles with this great game. So back in the winter I switched to Sarah Wilson based at Bramford Golf Centre and haven't looked back.
My reason for switching was that I was struggling with my short game and she is recognised as a short game specialist coach (and she's now in Golf World's Top 100 coaches). So we have worked on my pitching, chipping, putting and bunker play and that part of my game is unrecognisable from what it looked like back in February. We spent half of my last lesson looking at my posture and it made an immediate impact. I guess that lesson in itself is a great example.
We had half an hour booked for bunkers after ten minutes I was playing shots much better and she felt confident that I had understood what I needed to change and work on. So rather than milking an extra 20 minutes out of watching me hit bunker shots we went to look at my problems with my driver. She identified some issues with my posture and sent me away to work on that as well. Had a lesson today to work on tightening my fade dispersion and I proceed to hit a succession of draws. After looking at a few things she identified that on the course I'm opening my shoulders a little, especially with the longer clubs, and a couple of other things. So we left it at that and started looking at my pitching instead which is now even tidier than before.
I guess the point of this ramble is to say that I'm very grateful that I have a coach that explains things incredibly clearly, is focused on making me better and maximises every minute of every lesson to achieve that. My next target is to get my handicap down to 18 as I shouldn't really be getting more than a shot a hole and then we will build from there. Given that I lost about eight weeks this summer with the arrival of my gorgeous daughter I am stunned with how much I have improved in such a short space of time. I now need to do it consistently on the course.
A very happy Tiger
