Playing at Bearwood Lakes yesterday, beautiful day, course in perfect condition. I was going along quite nicely after 7 holes. Had blobbed one (tricky par 3) but still had 15 points under my belt. Hitting the ball reasonably well.
Stood on the 8th tee, short par 4. Has never caused me problems in the past. Waiting for the green to clear I heard my mobile phone bleep a text message.
Now I don't normally carry my phone on the course, I always (always) leave it in the car, but because I had been held up in traffic yesterday and it was a bit rushed onto the tee I just slipped it in my bag.
Whilst we were waiting I just thought I'd read the message thinking it was a good luck text from the Missus.
No, it was my boss telling me that unfortunately due to family circumstances (his) I would have to work the two late night shifts this week. A bit cheesed off because I have things that I wanted to do on the two evenings involved, but he's the boss so I can't argue.
Proceeded to hook my tee shot into the lake on the left (which has never come into play for me before) and blob the hole, along with the next. Bugger. I was on for a 19 pointer and had to settle for 15....
So just a reminder to you all.....don't look at text messages whilst you are on the course. Especially if they say they are from "Paul Lindfield mobile" rather than "Sam mobile"
