a new whiskey

Rory always has been Irish as far as I'm concerned considering he as born in Ireland and all that.

He's Northern Irish, not Irish.

He could be Irish, if he wanted to be, such is the wacky world of Norn Irish politics but he is firmly Northern Irish.

I know which side of the arbitrary line he was born. ;)

Don't read so much into them and certainly not anti-Rory - it was heart-breaking to see him struggle on the Sunday after playing some sublime golf for the first 3 days. His swing and ball-striking are a joy to watch. He comes across as being really grounded and having a great sense of humour. I was gutted for him - just as at the Open.

Sorry if the humour offended - not intended - just banter.

I guess that makes me Southern English and not English

I wonder if I too am British when I win (I'll let ya'll know when I win summit!) ;)

To be honest I always considered Rory to be a wannabee Scotsman... purely on the basis of his shite hairstyle :p

No it would make you English, Northern Ireland is a different country from the Republic. I am Northern Irish, I see it slightly differently than Irish though if anyone calls me Irish, I wouldnt take offence to it.
At the end of the day they are all just words, no amount of words can change who you are anyway and we are all neighbours, except for those Isle of Manners, they are a strange bunch :D.

Ditto, since I moved to England I have relaxed my views on being called Irish, it doesn't offend me but it is technically incorrect as I haven't taken up the Irishness offered to me by virtue of being born in NI.

I favour an inclusive approach, since moving to England I happily consider myself, an Ulsterman(that's a province not a country),Irish, and British(so says the passport), also Brummie by birth if not upbringing, European and when in a really, really good mood a human being. As for Rory I'd like to feel sorry for the lad but he is a ManU supporter and my sympathy has its limits!
