After a great year last, this year has, in the main, been pants. As the game tee to green suffered, the pressure on the putts increased. That, allied to changing clubs to a course that has dead elephants buried under the greens, has seen any hint of golf disappear.
Two 1 hour sessions on the practice putting green last week improved the confidence. Just needed the rest of the game to perk up.
Out in 39, 4 over including taking 4 from 10yds on the 9th for a double bogey, 3 of which were from 18"!! The back 9 started with a decent par on a par 5. Then the next hole is a very long par 4, into the wind today. A cracking drive down the centre of the fairway, and an even better #2 hybrid to 15' - oops!! Wrong ball for the 2nd shot, but still managed to to finish the hole with a bogey. Next was a par 3 over water - oops, into the water. But knocked the next shot, from 80yds, to 2" for a tap in bogey. Then a birdie, then bogey, bogey, birdie. Missed another birdie from less than 2' on 17 & left a 15' birdie putt on the last clinging to the edge. Back in 39, 2 over. 78 - 5 for a 1 over 73.
It may not be startling but it feels fantastic to me.
