A hatred of Decorating!

Been there recently with an extension. It's a monumental relief when it's all done.

I don't mind the actual painting etc. It's the cleaning up.

i weirdly love it all! my fav part is the prep. doing every room at our new house and the state of the walls is nigh on awful, if not worse! Making them clean and true is very satisfying! The actual painting is a bit meh, it only looks as good as the prep that went in before!

I feel your pain, spent the last 7 years of my life (almost every evening & weekends) working on the last house and this house and garden.

Havent the touch the house for two months now, utility is half done, so cheesed off with it all.

Decided to play golf etc instead but the weather is not the best still:mad:

Enjoy the decorating:ears:

Hate, hate, hate it. I'm old enough to be retired but work part time as a photographer. The way I look at it I'd rather be out earning the money to pay a decorator, which is what I do. My hourly rate is better than his.

Love it tbh and rooter is spot on all in the prep! I may be going back to as a living and watching people's face after you have finished is very good. Builders hate us as we make it look like a real home;)

It's like I told Missis T, they teach 3 yr old kids at infant Skool to paint but they don't teach them how to hang wall paper.
That where yer main man Tashyboy comes in. plumb lines, am yer man. Bubbles I yer paper, not in Woodhouse.
But it's all about making life easy, skirting boards and door architrave, paint them you having a laugh. Treat HID to oak skirting boards, they are gorgeous and smash a painted skirting board. It's like comparing a Ping driver to a Hippo driver. Hope that helps.

I have people coming in quoting for a whole house paint job tomorrow. I rather pay a bit than making it look bad myself.

I have a wife who loves decorating. She does all the fiddley stuff. I just provide the labour when it comes to painting most of the walls and ceiling. I leave the edges to her.

I cant abide leaving the clean up to the end, I have to work tidy so that its just a few minutes at the finish

I have relies that are the opposite and it drives me potty

I think its a throw back to a lot of years in retail such that the place still has to function during any changes, whether its the shop-floor or the home there needs to be minimal disruption/mess at all times

I mean the relies could be painting a bedroom and the lounge will be a write off all day.... aaaarrrggghhhhh!

Don't know if I hate it as I have not done any for nearly 40 years.

If I don't pay the tradesmen how are they going to feed their kids and pay the mortgage?

I don't mind the work... it's the loneliness that kills me. But the same goes for any job, weeding, grass cutting or even 18 holes of golf alone can be uber boring at times.

I find painting skirting boards and door frames quite therapeutic but finding the time to do it is the difficult bit as whatever free time is spent on golf!

Not a fan but not a fan of paying someone when you know you can do just as good a job.
That is the deciding bit I think. I tried it once and I was useless.

Question: How long should a decorator take to paint a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom flat? Including skirting boards, doorframe, and the wood bits running along the walls?
