Just been thinking about the Centenary year next year (don't ask why, totally random). Is there a magazine in the States that's as popular (though probably not as well written as GM)?

How about at the end of next season there is a Ryder Cup style match between GM and its rival US mag? Teams could consist of 6 staff and 6 readers and be rolled out as a competition prize.

Whad'ya reckon or has this been done before?

Their handicapping system isn't as tough as ours so we'd win. A 1 handicap in the US is like a 5 handicap here.

Where would it be held it would have to be half way.Thats the middle of the Atlantic dont think it would work :)

I wondered about something similar for the forum but I don't know of any 'Golf Monthly' style magazines in the States.

It's a great idea for the centenary though. Perhaps played in October 2011??

It could become a bi-annual thing - perhaps played for charity??

Whilst I like the idea of a Ryder Cup event something of that magnitude would be a nightmare to organise. I like the idea of a home nations thing going to a different country each year. It gives everyone a chance to compete at some point

Not sure why it would be that difficult to organise, I've arranged much more complicated things in my time or am I missing a trick? Sorting the costs out however....

I thought about Home Nations but how would you arrange that England vs the Celts, Home of Golf vs Everyone Else, Staff vs the Readers?

A bi-annual thing for charity would be ace especially if as AW says it started in October 2011 perhaps on our fair shores and it would make for an excellent magazine article to round off the centenary year.
