I've decided there's not enough gap between my 3 and 5 woods. Really the 3 is a 4 as it has 17 degrees loft but the shaft of a 3 wood. I also carry a 23 degree hybrid.

I need something to plug the 200(hybrid)-240(4 wood) yards gap.

So I'm thinking either 18/19 degree hybrid or 20/21 degree 7 wood should go about the same distance. The flight I'm looking for is high enough to stop on greens from a distance but low enough to bore through any wind.

Not after much am I? I've seen a good conditon Cally 7 wood (warbird) for not a lot of beans and the rightish shaftand hybrids all tend to be "draw" machines - something I don't need any help with.

Thoughts?

My dad has one of those "Seven Heaven" Warbird Woods...I cannot comprehend such a massive loft on such a club but I used to hit it quite well when I was younger. I've never hit a hybrid so I can't compare, but the Cally's are lovely clubs.

High and low with no real issues Bob. Cleveland Launcher with a steel shaft - very versatile.
What are you thinking.....?

I'm thinking that you want a versatile club you can hit high and low? Am I right?. I think that you would find it tricky to hit a 7 wood low but if you can hit your 23 hybrid high, the chances are you will be able to hit an 18 quite high too.
If you want a club to go high and low, I would lean towards the 2 hybrid. (Just don't tell Freddielong. :)
Can you not borrow one and try it first?

I found a lower lofted hybrid hard to hit consistently. 18 degrees it was, same as my 5w, but harder to hit. I would get the gentlemans persuader 7w, if I could stand the shame. Probably a Ping one.

You've not thought about a bladed two iron then?

IUve got a Taylor Made V steel 7w in great condition, its a really good club and up until this year i used it as my life saver, but ive now replaced it with a 3 rescue dual.

if im honest i found it quite powerfull and not alot of difference between that and my 5w, probally 15 yards max.

It will be up for sale if your interested.

I've got a 7-wood and find it great for shots out of the rough or uphill lies. The only problem is that I get the piss ripped out of me something chronic for using what is seen as a ladies' club. Hey, let the score do the talking. Use whatever works for you!

Not sure if you have any brand in mind but I picked up a brand new Benross VT Xtreme 5 wood max of ebay for £20.00. This has a 21 degree loft and is doing me nicely at the moment. would have been accused of having an old mans club if I carried a 7 wood so this does the job under a different name. Has a great Aldila DVS shaft and is great off the tee and the deck. Quite high launching but that suits me.

I know I'm only a beginner and all that but I have a dunlop 7 wood in my bag and wouldnt change it for the world. I've hit that thing over 220 yards (measured) and its a joy to have in my bag. It gets me out of more trougle than I can get myself into. Sometimes it doesnt go right but at my level neither does my 7 Iron (bloody game).

So my 2p for what its worth (which is nowt) 7 Wood, all day long and twice on Sundays.
