5 hybrid

Proud carrier of a 24° hybrid - that's in the ballpark right Op? 180-190 carried into a green with that fella always makes me smile. Loosing a little swingspeed and power in my early 30's due to onset of arthritis made me rein in the pride a little and let technology help.

Im 34 and carry hybrids. well only 1 now as i replaced my 3 hybrid with a 5 wood. my 4 hybrid is good for around 180-190 yards with high trajectory and limited roll. perfect for GIR hunting on longer holes!

I've got 3 adjustable cobra amp cell hybrids, so I've currently got them on 3,4 and 5 settings. Highly recommended and you can get them cheap ish now as the new model is about to be launched.

Also just today got a Mizuno Fly Hi 6 iron replacement in the post. I'm not that good and don't play that often that I will get appreciably better, so I have just got to the stage where I want to enjoy my golf and make it as easy as possible. I could probably hit my 5 iron well 40% of the time, I can hit the hybrid replacement well 70 to 80% of the time so it's a no brainer to me. As already mentioned most tour pros use them, but even if they didn't they make the game easier and more enjoyable for me so I'll use them all day long.

I am not knocking them just saying that they are more common with the Older Gent, I might decide to get one in about 30 years time if I feel I am losing distance with my irons.

Well kind of taking as read golf is more common with the older gent anyway, just about every golf bag I see has at least one hybrid in it.

I have a 24 degree hybrid and it is a definite go-to club. Easier to hit than the long irons, great distance, great for bump-and-run shots, etc.
One club I defintely wouldn't want to be without.

Anyone use a 5 hybrid.

I have to admit that I didn't know these existed until a mate mentioned them yesterday.

But seeing as generally I hit my other longer hybrids more consistently than I do my 5 iron I'd certainly think about getting one of these if the feedback was positive.

What happens when you can't hit a 6i.... Then 7i.

You have to draw the line somewhere,

Not really. You just get the clubs that allows you to hit it the distance required. There's no rule to say you must use irons, so if hybrids do it for you and ensure you enjoy the game then use them.

Very strange must say I can't agree with that, maybe we are just playing with different levels of Golfers.

Like I say who knows I may end up with one but for now I am happy to stick with irons.

Golfing technology has moves on and most pro's carry at least one hybrid in their bag depending on the course they are playing.

Although golfers some may have sufficient skill to be able to hit a 2-5 iron consistently the truth is most mere mortals playing club level golf don't. In fact I know several golfers who are good iron players who swore blind they would never use a hybrid however after seeing some high handicap players pulling off some very impressive shots they soon had a change of heart.

Many pro's are of the opinion that if you're a club level golfer you should carry at least one or two hybrids and some such as Mark Crossfield advocate that many club golfers would improve by replacing everything under a 6 iron with hybrids. Personally I'd agree with this as I've played enough people to realise that they are often reluctant to use anything more than a 7 iron due to the increased risk of duffing the shot from anything but a perfect lie.

It's also easy to forget that many of the modern irons have jacked up lofts and longer shafts to aid distance and what would have been a 4 iron in years gone by now is stamped up as a 6 iron. I'm also not convinced that even that with all the newer technology a newer, longer, more strongly lofted iron is any easier to hit.

My advice to anybody is to use whatever gives you confidence and the ability to get the ball from A to B. If it means using a shovel on a stick, (this is how 460 degree drivers and SGI clubs were originally described), use it. It's the results that count and if you can find something that helps to improve your results, use it to your advantage because if you don't somebody else will.

I agree, poor attempt at humour in my earlier post. My mate recently switched to a Adams iron hybrid set. Made a massive difference to his game. Not the best looking clubs, but his score card looks a lot better.
