4BBB comp with odd numbers

Does anyone have any advice to deal with this?

We have a trophy competition in which pairs are randomly selected from those putting their names down to participate. So we end up with x number of 4-balls and one 3-ball.

What can we do with the 3-ball?

Jim, you know that in 4bbb comps 1 player is allowed to represent the side when the other player isn't present.
But could join the game at any point

Pair one of the players with each of the other two & play two 4BBB games that way. The lucky one has two chances to win (& two chances to ruin the other players' scores)

Tell the 3 players they can't play . Probably not the ideal solution you were looking for, but no idea is a bad idea when brainstorming.

Tell the 3 players one of them needs to find a partner.

Issue a request to all members for one additional player.

Put player 3 down as a first reserve in case of a no show or someone dropping out.

Tell player 3 to play all holes and have a random draw from all the other players and that player's score to used as his playing partner's score.

Someone is going to have to play on their own.

I had to do this once when my partner didn't show up and couldn't get in touch (pre mobile phones).
