Depending on the 9 holes you play think about shots yu will have to play. Myself would be:

not me ha ha you should see the mess i make of it with a putter ha then again maybe il find the solution in yor selection
If it is a proper three club I'd go 3H 6 iron and 9 iron and putt with the nine as well. In a 3 club + putter I'd go 5 wood, 7 iron and wedge

I think I'd go with 20 deg hybrid, 7i & SW if the putters an extra or 5i, GW & putter if not.

What is the point of a 3 club competition????
I just cant get my head round why you would want to play golf with three clubs? Why?
5 club, its a bit more realistic and reasonable but three club, no thanks. Would rather just go to the practice area.

3 clubs and putter is a fun format and surprising how well you can score. We play it at my course in the summer evening roll ups. Just 9 holes and it's great fun and good practice.

To be fair, Dave Pelz in his "Short Game Bible" recommends playing a course with nothing but a 7-iron and a putter, so as to learn how to control the ball on the ground.
