Well, I did it! 3w 6i PW putter as decided and it was...ahem...interesting.
Truth be known, I didn't manage a single par on the holes I had the 3w PW planned......for some reason I was slicing my 3w quite badly (longest club in the bag problem) and although I didn't get in trouble, I needed at least an 8 iron to nearly all those holes. So, I used the 6i and managed to hit....drum roll......ONE
So, all told. 3 GIR
6 pars
11 bogeys and one double
Total 83. I fluked a chip-in on SI 3 for the first par there in 3 months! (missed the green in 3
) and then proceed to par the SI 1 with 2 x 3 woods to 20 yards short, pulled PW which came off the shoulder of the bunker to 7 foot...for another par.
It should really have been an 85.....surprise, surprise
What have I learned.......
1) my 3 wood is no straighter than my driver.
2) if you're going to make mostly bogeys, it's almost irrelevant what clubs you go with
3) if you can pitch well from short of the green (or long for that matter) you could conceivably play to your h'cap....but not for single figure players...too much resting on short game even for a genius.
4) if you choke down on an iron, not only does it go shorter, but it flies low, although probably not so straight.
5) luck is like buses....none for ages and then 2 miracles saved me 2-4 strokes......
I'm not exactly itching to do it again.
